PRESQUE ISLE & FORT FAIRFIELD – Bertrand J. Pelletier, 88, husband of Mrs. Lorette E. (Gagnon) Pelletier, passed away Wednesday morning, June 12, 2013, at a Presque Isle nursing facility, after an extended illness. He was born September 3, 1924, in St. Francis, the son of Belone and Mary (Jandreau) Pelletier. American Flag Color
    He was educated in St. Francis schools and bravely served his country in the United States Army during World War II, being drafted on March 4, 1943, serving in the 614th Medical Clearing Company as a medic. Bert saw action at Normandy, Battle of the Bulge, Northern France, Ardennes and Central Europe. He was awarded the Combat Medical Badge and the Bronze Star. ARSH Bertrand Pelletier OB1
    Bert was married to Lorette E. Gagnon on February 25, 1952, and was a lifelong woodsman, starting as a lumberjack who yarded with horses, and later worked for Great Northern Paper, retiring in 1990 from Columbia Forest Products after twenty-seven years of dedicated service.
    Bert was a member of the VFW Paul Lockhart Post Number 6187, Fort Fairfield and a communicant of the Parish of the Precious Blood, St. Denis Catholic Church, Fort Fairfield. He was a resident of Fort Fairfield from 1957 to 2007 at which time he and Lorette moved to Mapleton, and was a resident of Presque Isle since 2009. Bert greatly enjoyed his family, especially his grandchildren and enjoyed spending time and sharing activities with them as often as possible.
    In addition to his parents, Mr. Pelletier was predeceased by two brothers, Adjtor and Lawrence Pelletier; four sisters, Muriel Caron, Pearl O’Leary, Fern Levesque and Evelyn Rosenthal; one son-in-law, Brian R. Raymond.
    He is survived by his wife of sixty-one years, Lorette of Presque Isle; two daughters, Brenda M. Hartley and her companion, Peter Fox of Caribou, Dianne J. Raymond and her companion, Ken Hoehlein of Carmel; three brothers- and sisters-in-law, Rudolph and Esther May Pelletier of St. Francis, Roderick Pelletier of Westdale, NY, Carroll and Jeannette Pelletier of New Britain, CT; two sisters- and brothers-in-law, Greta and Galen Pelletier of New Britain, CT, Linda and Kit Thibodeau of Newport; four grandchildren, Leo Raymond and his wife, Jennifer of Mapleton, Eve Bull and her husband, Larry of Ellsworth, Angela St. Pierre and her husband, Jon of Fort Fairfield, Karen Hayes and her husband, Ryan of Easton; nine great-grandchildren, Alexis and Cole Hayes of Easton, Hunter and Delaney St. Pierre of Fort Fairfield, Christian, Joshua and Bryson Raymond of Mapleton, Trevor and Chantz Bull of Ellsworth; numerous nieces and nephews.
    In keeping with Bert’s wishes, there were no calling hours. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Saturday, June 15, 2013, at 11 a.m. at the Parish of the Precious Blood, St. Denis Catholic Church, 147 Main St., Fort Fairfield. Interment took place at Northern Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Caribou. A time of continued fellowship with refreshments was held after the service at the VFW Paul Lockhart Post Number 6187, Presque Isle St., Fort Fairfield.
