PRESQUE ISLE — The Presque Isle Police Department is investigating a string of car burglaries that occurred over a three-day period.

The PIPD received numerous reports beginning June 16 and continuing into June 17 of various items being taken from vehicles parked at residences in the community. The thefts were believed to have occurred during the evening hours over the weekend.
Residents on several streets on the east side of the city called indicating they’d found items missing from their vehicles while parked in their driveways. Locations included homes on the following streets: Canterbury, University, Hardy, Academy, Dudley, Barton and Church. Missing items include: loose change, CDs, electronics and miscellaneous items. The most notable item reported missing was a firearm.
A juvenile has been arrested in connection with the thefts but police are reportedly seeking at least one other suspect. Anyone with information about the thefts or who has been a victim is asked to call the PIPD at 764-4476.
Police encourage owners to lock their vehicles, even if parked in their own driveways. They also advise not leaving valuables in the vehicles, but if you do, be sure to lock them in the trunk or glove box out of sight.
