The students were given wonderful tours by various members of the Salmon Brook Historical Society. The students were able to walk through a fully furnished homestead with historical items dated primarily from the mid to late 1800s and a barn full of antique tools, farm machinery, buggies and so much more. The museums have already begun their summer hours and are open to the public on Sundays from 1-4 p.m. and on Wednesdays from 8-11 a.m. There is no admission charge into the museums but donations are appreciated.
Knitting class
On Sunday, June 30, the Salmon Brook Historical Society will be holding a finger knitting class for kids age 6 and up between 1-4 p.m. at the museum next to Story Park on Main Street in Washburn. Also on July 21 they are planning a knit and crochet afternoon at the museum; bring your knitting or crochet projects to work on and have fun for the afternoon.
School trip fundraiser
The Washburn District High School Scotland/Ireland Tour Group sold raffle tickets for a weekend getaway to the Hampton Inn in Presque Isle and a dinner for two at the Irish Setter Pub. The winner was Butch Thompson of Washburn. We would like to thank the Hampton Inn in Presque Isle and the Irish Setter Pub, also of Presque Isle, for donating items for the raffle.
Fun Day
On Monday, June 10, the Washburn District Elementary School held its annual Fun Day. It was a beautiful sunny day and the students were able to spend the day outside. There were games, water balloons, face painting and a cookout. Steve Boddy of KC&Company DJ services volunteered his time Monday to provide music for the day’s festivities. The students went home soaking wet, with faces painted and a smile.
