PRESQUE ISLE — A two-vehicle accident on the State Road Saturday morning sent one driver to the hospital, according to Deputy Chief Laurie Kelly of the Presque Isle Police Department.

The crash was reported around 11:37a.m. on June 8. Police have not released the names of those involved in the accident that shut down a section of Route 228 for a short time as emergency personnel investigated. Officer Kevin Reed was lead investigator, assisted by Officers Brian McQuarrie and Cole Chandler — all of the PIPD.
“A 33-year-old Presque Isle man was eastbound on the State Road driving a 2003 Mitsubishi SUV. A 74-year-old Presque Isle woman was westbound driving a 2004 Mercury passenger car. The eastbound SUV crossed the center line, striking the westbound vehicle,” said Kelly.
The man’s vehicle reportedly left the road, went airborne and rolled several times, ejecting the driver.
“The female suffered minor injuries but was treated at the scene. The male sustained head injuries and was transported and admitted to The Aroostook Medical Center,” said Kelly.
The PIPD refused to release the names of those involved in the accident.
Impact Auto and Mike Cowett’s Towing Service were called to remove the vehicles, which sustained significant damage. The Presque Isle Fire Department also provided assistance.
Kelly said the accident remains under investigation and that alcohol is considered to be a factor in the crash.
