Youth golf program offered at AVCC

    FORT FAIRFIELD — Aroostook Valley Country Club is offering a youth golf program this summer for boys and girls ages 9-17.

    AVCC golf pro Steve Leitch and assistant golf pro Steve Hansen will instruct the program with assistance from others. The program will consist of one hour of instruction on Wednesday mornings from 10-11 a.m. beginning on June 19. Also as part of the program, participants will have the opportunity to play nine holes of golf each Thursday at 10 a.m. with supervision from a mentor, beginning June 20.
    Each participant enrolled in the Aroostook Valley Youth Golf Program will have limited golfing privileges during the 10 weeks that the program runs. This includes course play during certain hours throughout the week, and playing on weekends and holidays after 3 p.m. Participants in the program will also be allowed to borrow a set of golf clubs each time you play if you do not already own a set.
    The cost for the 10-week program is $50 and is payable at AVCC. For more information or to register, please contact AVCC at 476-8083.

Volleyball camp at UMPI scheduled July 22-26

    The University of Maine at Presque Isle volleyball program will hold a summer skills camp the week of July 22-26. The camp is open for girls entering sixth through 12th grades and take place in Wieden Hall on the UMPI campus.
    Owl head volleyball coach Mark Kornachuk will direct the camp. Kornachuk is a graduate of the University of Tennessee and has 25 years of volleyball experience. While in Arizona, California, Tennessee and Maine, Kornachuk has coached different ages and teams. The UMPI volleyball team would like to bring our volleyball training to the community for those wanting to play hard, enjoy the game and excel in a sport that is growing in Maine.
    The clinic will be held daily from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. and the cost is $50, which includes a camp T-shirt. Team discounts are available. For more information, contact Kornachuk at Mark.kornachuk@gmail.com or 999-9836.

Flag football tourney to be held in Caribou

    The Aroostook Huskies Football Club is holding a co-ed flag football tournament Sunday, June 23 from 9 a.m.-6 p.m. at Sincock Field in Caribou.
    The registration fee for the double-elimination tourney is $150 per team, which may consist of a roster of up to 12 players. Four males and four females must be on the field at all times.
    Every player will receive a commemorative T-shirt and the winning team will receive a trophy.
    The first eight teams to register will be accepted. USA Football flag football rules will apply. Concessions will be available at the field.
    All proceeds will benefit the Huskies’ football program.

Milk Run scheduled June 30 in Mapleton

    A road race has been added to the events of Farm Fest at Maple Meadow Farms in Mapleton later this month.
    The Maine Dairy Promotion Board will sponsor the Farm Fest 5K Milk Run, which will start at 8 a.m. on Sunday, June 30. The race is open to all ages and is a 3.2-mile easy to moderate course.
    The course starts with a low gradual hill, flattens a bit, turns into a downhill and ends on a moderate hill that turns into a flat. It starts at Rt. 163, turns left onto the Griffin Ridge Road, bears right onto the Garland Road and a left back on to Rt. 163. There will be water stops at miles one and two and the finish. The race begins and ends at Maple Meadow Farms.
    Runners will be able to refuel with chocolate milk at the end of the race, and each participant will receive a T-shirt and goodie bag. Because this is the first Milk Run, the race will be capped at 100 runners. The cost to run is $20. Registration will be taken at the Maine Dairy Promotion Board’s booth at Farm Fest on Saturday, June 29 or anytime online at www.raceit.com.
