Ground-breaking event
planned at Maysville Grange

PRESQUE ISLE — Restoration efforts on a local landmark will get under way this weekend, as members of the Presque Isle Historical Society gather at the Maysville Grange for a special celebration to mark the occasion.
“Members of the Presque Isle Historical Society invite the public to join us on Saturday, June 8 (weather permitting), for the groundbreaking at the Maysville Grange, located at 165 Caribou Rd., at the corner of U.S. Route 1 and the Brewer Road,” said Kim Smith, treasurer and spokesperson for the Historical Society.
The structure was bought by the organization a few years ago, with plans to restore the building and use it as a museum showcasing local artifacts. The building has had a variety of uses over the years, including a one-room schoolhouse and municipal gathering spot.
A variety of activities are slated throughout the afternoon.
“Molly the Trolley and our 1929 fire engine will be on display from noon until 3 p.m. A cookout will run from around noon to 1:30 p.m., followed by volunteer recognition taking place about 1:30 to 2 p.m.,” said Smith.
“Proclamations will take place from about 2-2:15 p.m., with the groundbreaking to follow from 2:15-2:30 p.m.,” continued Smith.
