Rotary Club
The Mars Hill Rotary Club met on Tuesday, May 14, at 6:30 a.m. at the Aroostook Health Center. The speakers were Gil and Amanda Nkamwesiga, missionaries with Word of Life to Uganda, an African country about the same size as Oregon. There are 34 million people in Uganda,18.4 million of them in the city they live in, Kampala. The country struggles with political unrest in the north, government corruption and poverty, with most people living on $1.25 a day. HIV/AIDS is also a growing problem, which leads to a large number of orphans. It is not uncommon to see children homeless and walking the streets.
Word of Life, based in 52 countries, has had a presence in Uganda for 10 years. They hold camps, Bible clubs and perform Gospel productions. This spring they have opened a Bible institute, the first in the country. Their goal is to reach youth with the Gospel of Christ.
Gil is an evangelist, speaking at camps, schools and gatherings. Amanda is a discipler – working with ladies individually and in groups to help them grow in their walk with the Lord. Gil and Amanda will be in the area through September as they continue to raise the support they need. They will be speaking at churches and gatherings, as well as spending some time at summer camps. If you would like more information about their ministry, check out their Facebook pages: Gilbert Nkamwesiga or Amanda Kilcollins Nkamwesiga.
