KURILEC, Peter S., 69, CARIBOU, at Mars Hill, March 27, 2013. A memorial service will be held at the South Side Cemetery in Mapleton on May 17, 2013, at 1p.m.
CARIBOU – Peter S. Kurilec, 69, formerly of Hartford, Connecticut, passed away peacefully Wednesday evening, March 27, 2013, at the Aroostook Health Center in Mars Hill. He was born in Germany, April 20, 1943, the son of Dymtro and Katherine (Pasicznyk) Kurilec.
He and his family immigrated to the U.S. in 1950 and after a brief stay in Texas, established their home in Hartford, CT. Peter was a graduate of Hartford High School. He had a passion for history and an extraordinary talent for cooking. His love of independence and creative talents led him to Maine, where he established his career as a leather craftsman. He traveled the New England states over the next 40 years living the life he loved.
Peter is survived by his wife, Linda Kurilec of Caribou, ME; two daughters, Michelle (Kurilec) Furhman of Scarsdale, NY, and Genevieve (Kurilec) McDonald of Stonington, ME; his son, P. Steven Kurilec of Middletown, CT; two brothers, Gregory Kurilec of Weatherford, TX, and Theodor Kurilec of Proctorville, OH; a sister, Dr. Martha Kurilec of Wethersfield, CT; a grandson, Logan Furhman of Scarsdale, NY.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Myron Kurylec of Hartford, CT, and Michael Kurilec of Ukraine; sisters, Sonja (Kurilec) Tohm of Youngstown, OH, Hilda (Kurilec) Cunha of Orange City, FL, and Mary (Kurilec) Armstrong of Wethersfield), CT.
