Legends group to offer
annual scholarship to local students
It’s time for area senior scholar-athletes to apply for scholarships offered by the Northern Region of the Maine Sports Legends.
Applications have been mailed to all Aroostook area guidance offices. The deadline for application is May 20.
The Maine Sports Legends is a state-wide organization dedicated to honoring outstanding scholar-athletes who have met the prescribed standards in academics, has participated in their school’s varsity athletic programs along with possessing good character, completed community and civic involvement and shows strong leadership ability.
This scholarship of $500 is awarded to one male and female from the Aroostook area and will be awarded solely on the basis of the student’s credentials and shall be made without regard to financial need. There will be eight $500 scholarships awarded state-wide.
The Northern Region is proud to acknowledge McCain of Easton in 2007 and again from 2009-2012 along with Katahdin Trust Company from 2006 -2012 as they have been scholarship donors of $500 each. Many other local businesses and individuals in Aroostook County have provided varied financial donations to our scholarship program over the past years.
The Northern Region of Maine Sports Legends is looking forward to continuing this relationship with local businesses and individuals for our 2013 scholarships and in the future. Those donating will be acknowledged in the annual Maine Sports Legends banquet program booklet, which will be distributed state-wide. Those contributing allow the local organization to continue to provide financial aid to local high school scholar-athletes.
