Mapleton crowns five new queens

    PRESQUE ISLE — Six Little Miss Mapleton and three Pre-Teen Miss Mapleton contestants, along with the reigning queens, boarded their “cruise ship” April 6 for the 2013 “Anchors Aweigh” Mapleton pageant.

    DURING THE APRIL 6 PAGEANT, Rachel Dow, right, was named the new 2013 Miss Mapleton. Dow also received the Interview Award and Talent Award. Kali Warner, left, was named first runner-up and tied for Miss Congeniality. Dow is the daughter of Tony and Lisa Dow, and Warner is the daughter of Michael and Tina Warner. Each of the girls will receive a scholarship during their Class Day in June. The pageant was held at Presque Isle High School and was sponsored by the Class of 2015.

    THE CLASS OF 2015 at Presque Isle High School recently sponsored the two Mapleton pageants. During the evening pageant, three crowns were handed out. Pictured are winners in the Junior Miss division, from left: Jaidyn Blake, first runner-up; 2013 Junior Miss Mapleton Brittany Warner, and Abbigayle Quirino, second runner-up. Blake is the daughter of Jeff and Jolene Blake, Warner is the daughter of Michael and Tina Warner, and Quirino is the daughter of Bert and Karie Quirino.

    MADISON SHAW, center, was recently named the 2013 Teen Miss Mapleton. Emma Langille, left, was named first runner-up and tied for Miss Congeniality, while Madalyn Caron, right, was named second runner-up and received the award for high-ticket sales. Shaw is the daughter of Robert and Paula Shaw, Langille is the daughter of Carroll Jr. and Jennifer Langille, and Caron is the daughter of Stephen and Bobbie-Jo Caron. The pageant was held at Presque Isle High School and was sponsored by the Class of 2015.

    Following opening remarks from Presque Isle High School’s Class of 2015 President, Angela Hallowell, all 11 girls performed their opening number to “Sea Cruise,” choreographed by class member Kelsey Gilson. Class members Emma Kinney and Colin McKay served as the Mistress and Master of Ceremonies for the afternoon.
    The nine contestants competed in four categories — interview, which took place earlier in the day, casual wear, talent and gown. The six contestants competing in the Little Miss division were:
    • Sophia Morton, the 6-year-old daughter of Chris and Suzanne Morton, who sang the theme song from “Cheers” for her talent.
    • Rossalyn Buck, 8, the daughter of Barry and Martha Buck, who performed a clogging routine to “Mama Mia.” Buck was named first runner-up.
    • Bailey Plummer, the 8-year-old daughter of Allen and Christina Kidney, recited a humorous monologue entitled “Little Miss Muffet.” Plummer received the award for high-ticket sales and was also named the 2013 Little Miss Mapleton.
    • Allison Morton, 8, the daughter of Chris and Suzanne Morton, performed a self-choreographed dance routine to “Home.”
    • Julia Blake, the 9-year-old daughter of Jeff and Jolene Blake, presented a clogging routine to “Upside Down.” Blake was named second runner-up.
    • Annabella Quirino, 8, daughter of Bert and Karie Quirino, performed a hip hop dance routine to “What I Like About You.” Quirino was named Miss Congeniality for the afternoon.
    There were three contestants competing in the Pre-Teen Miss division:
    • Madelyn Buzza, the 10-year-old daughter of Aaron and Jennifer Buzza, sang “A King is Coming to Town” for her talent selection. Buzza was named first runner-up.
    • Courtney Harding, the 9-year-old daughter of John and Dina Harding, performed a vocal selection “Firework.”
    • Samantha Boulier, the 11-year-old daughter of Gordie and Rachel Boulier, sang “Mean” during the talent competition. Boulier received the Interview Award and Talent Award for receiving the highest overall scores in those two categories. Boulier was also named the 2013 Pre-Teen Miss Mapleton.
    During the afternoon, Libby Kinney, the reigning 2012 Little Miss Mapleton, performed a dance routine to “What Makes You Beautiful.” Paige McHatten, the reigning 2012 Pre-Teen Miss Mapleton, danced en pointe to the Glee version of “Somebody to Love.” Both queens were interviewed on stage and discussed memories from their reign. Each shared a PowerPoint of photos from their year while circling the auditorium during their farewell walk. Kinney was escorted by her father, Kevin Kinney, and McHatten was escorted by her father, Matt McHatten.
    The second pageant of the day began at 7 p.m. with the same nautical theme. A total of eight contestants competed in four areas: interviews, which were held earlier in the day, casual wear, talent and gown. The contestants, along with the 2012 reigning Junior Miss Mapleton Victoria Williamson, the 2012 Teen Miss Mapleton Logan Caron and the 2012 Miss Mapleton Sarah McEachern took to the stage for an impressively choreographed opening number to “Anything Goes,” by Class of 2015 member Kelsey Gilson. Emma Kinney and Colin McKay returned as Mistress and Master of Ceremonies for the evening.
    Competing for the title of 2013 Junior Miss Mapleton were:
    • Jaidyn Blake, the 12-year-old daughter of Jeff and Jolene Blake, sang “Pie Jesu Requiem” during the talent competition. At the end of the evening, Blake was named first runner-up.
    • Abbigayle Quirino, 12, daughter of Bert and Karie Quirino, performed a hip hop dance routine to “Aaron’s Party.” Quirino was named second runner-up.
    • Brittany Warner, the 14-year-old daughter of Michael and Tina Warner, presented a jazz hip hop dance routine to “You Get What You Give.” Warner was named the 2013 Junior Miss Mapleton.
    Competing for the title of 2013 Teen Miss Mapleton were:
    • Madalyn Caron, the 15-year-old daughter of Stephen and Bobbie-Jo Caron, performed an upbeat dance routine to “Old Time Rock and Roll.” Caron received the award for high-ticket sales and was named second runner-up in her division.
    • Emma Langille, 15, daughter of Carroll Jr. and Jennifer Langille, entertained the audience with a lyrical dance routine to “The Chain.” Langille was named first runner up. She also tied for the Miss Congeniality award.
    • Madison Shaw, the 15-year-old daughter of Robert and Paula Shaw, performed the only instrumental selection of the evening. She played “Fur Elise” on the piano. Shaw was named the 2013 Teen Miss Mapleton.
    Competing for the title of 2013 Miss Mapleton were:
    • Rachel Dow, the 18-year-old daughter of Tony and Lisa Dow, performed a self-scripted theatrical piece entitled “A Princess, A Frog, and a lot of Potatoes.” At the end of the evening, Dow received the Interview Award, Talent Award and was named 2013 Miss Mapleton.
    • Kali Warner, 18, daughter of Michael and Tina Warner, danced to “Let’s Go” during the talent competition. Warner was named first runner-up and also tied for Miss Congeniality. Both Dow and Warner will receive scholarships at Class Day in June from the Class of 2015.
    As with the afternoon pageant, the reigning queens of the evening pageant were each interviewed on stage and had one last chance to perform as queen. Victoria Williamson, the 2012 Junior Miss Mapleton, presented a hip hop dance routine to “Beauty and a Beat.” Logan Caron, the 2012 Teen Miss Mapleton, also presented a hip hop dance routine to “Dynamite” and Sarah McEachern, the 2012 Miss Mapleton, clogged to “I Knew You Were Trouble.” Each also had the opportunity to share their farewell thoughts and photos while making their way around the auditorium. Williamson was escorted by her father, Theodore Williamson, Caron was escorted by her stepfather, Tim York, and McEachern was escorted by her father, Bruce McEachern.
    Also making appearances during the two pageants were the 2012 Little Miss Maine Potato Queen Delaney Alward and the 2012 Teen Miss Maine Potato Queen Hannah Guerrette, both of Mapleton. All of the contestants in both pageants each received a personalized participation trophy. The Class of 2015 at PIHS sponsored the day’s pageants.
