Life through a student’s lens

Pics show beauty in the ordinary

Editor’s note: Student’s in Amy White’s digital photography class at the Presque Isle Regional Career and Technical Center selected their favorite shots to share with our readers. Photos are dispersed throughout this week’s Newspapers In Education section.

DEPTH OF FIELD

This picture was taken in my Aunt Kristen’s backyard in the early fall. This picture is my favorite because it shows depth of field and the colors go really well together — also the detail shown in the middle of the flower really adds to the picture.

AWASH IN COLOR

I chose this picture because I love the color of the plant and the color of the bench together. I also like how the wood on the bench is worn out. The focus on this picture is really good. This was taken in my backyard which is really cool because it shows that you don’t have to go very far to take really good pictures. I also love the fact that I took this in the middle of fall but as soon as I look at it, I think of summer.

This project was titled “drinks.” I really like how this one came out. I like how well the bubbles showed, and how the light hits the glass.

This picture was taken at Mantle Lake Park in Presque Isle. We had a field trip day to go take pictures for the class period. I like this picture because it shows depth of field and reminds me of summer!

APPEALING TO THE EYE

NIE-ShelbyCondon-clr-cx-sh-10

This was a photo I took for the depth of field assignment. What I think makes this photo my best is the lighting and color. I think the lighting coming in from the window works well in this photo. When taking this picture, I placed the only red tomato as the focus and the green tomatoes in the background. I think this makes the color in the photo more appealing.

LIGHTING AND POSITION

This picture was taken at the SAD 1 School Farm this past fall. I like the lighting and the position of the sun in this picture. The contrast of the apple to the surrounding leaves also works well.

TEXTURE AND CONTRAST

This picture was taken this fall at the base of my tree on the front lawn. I enjoy this image because of the bright colors of the leaves and the way the background is not in focus. Also the texture of the bark of the tree adds to the contrast of the picture.

IN FOCUS

The seedling of a dandelion reminds me of the summer months. They’re a wind plant. In northern Maine almost every lawn has them. What I like about this picture is the focus. The focus is on the seeds. The black and white add effect to the image.

NATURE’S BOUNTY

This image was one of the first photos I took in the fall for my photography class. I love it because the colors go so well together and it reminds me of the summertime. The depth of field also makes it one of my favorite photos.

CONTRASTING COLORS

 NIE-CourtneyCarney-clr-cx-sh-10

I picked this picture because I really liked how the colors contrasted with each other and the angle of this picture itself. I found these at my grandmother’s old house and thought it would be a good idea to take a picture of them.

BLENDING COLORS

This photo is from an assignment that I had to take of a Christmas bulb on a snow-covered tree. I took this photo outside on a tree near my house. I like this photo because I think that the colors go good and blend in very well in the background.

WAITING TO PLAY

I took this picture for fun. It was a nice day out so I thought I would take some outside pictures of my dog, Jessy. She loves the snow. The snow holds her attention because she is deaf and can’t hear anything. I held the snow in my hand and waited for her to sit so I could take the picture. It was hard because she wouldn’t stop barking and jumping up and trying to get the snow. I finally got this picture. After I did some editing, I was very pleased with this picture. Now it is one of my favorites that I have taken so far.

FUN IN THE SNOW

This picture was taken just for fun one day. My dog really likes snow so I took her out and just let her loose. This is one of the shots I captured of her on one of the recent snowy days.
