     DADE CITY, FL & MAPLETON, ME – Helen York Porter, 90, passed away Wednesday, March 13, 2013, in Dade City. She was born June 15, 1922, in Mapleton, to Lewis & Daisy Fern Jones York and moved to Florida 30 years ago from Vernon, CT. She retired from Pratt Whitney in East Hartford after 30 years of building airplanes and always said, “I built them, but I won’t fly them”. She was an original “Rosie the Riveter” during WW II and enjoyed sewing.
    She was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Ray Porter; and four siblings: Ace York, Eldon York, Doreen York and Faustena Alley. She is survived by her daughter, Vivian Porter Striano; three sisters: Mildred Loomis, Gloria Morrill and Louise Greenier; numerous nieces and nephews.
    Graveside services will be held 11 a.m., Friday, March 29, 2013, at Chapel Hill Gardens, FL. In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to HPH Hospice in her memory. Hodges Family Funeral Home, Dade City, FL.
