Manifold named player of year,
Louis and Warner other first-teamers
PRESQUE ISLE — The University of Maine at Presque Isle’s Patrick Manifold, a senior from Great Yarmouth, United Kingdom, added to his post season accolades March 14 when he was named the Association of NCAA Division III Independents men’s basketball player of the year.
Two weeks ago, Patrick Manifold was named a USCAA second team All-American. The 6-foot-8 center led the team with 17.7 points per game and 8.9 rebounds. He finished his career with 1,351 points.
“I congratulate Patrick on being named the Player of the Year,” said Presque Isle coach Jim Casciano. “Winning this award is a testament to his dedication and hard work not only for this season but throughout his career. Patrick is most deserving of this honor.”
Manifold is the first Owl men’s basketball player to be named AD3I Player of the Year. UM-Presque Isle has been an NCAA Division III Independent since the 2004-05 season.
Manifold is flanked by two teammates on the AD3I first team. Claude “Shmoke” Louis, a junior from Union, N.J., and Michael Warner, a junior from Norwich, U.K., were also named “First Team All-Independent.”
Louis, a transfer student from New Jersey, made a splash with the team in his first year with his intense on-court personality and his propensity for knocking down deep threes. The guard averaged 14.9 points per game in helping the Owls make an eight-win improvement this season.
The mild-mannered Warner had a breakout season with the Owls this year, emerging as a deadly perimeter shooter.
After averaging a respectable 8.8 points per game in 2011-12, Warner shot 47.5 percent from the floor this season and increased his points per game average to 13.8.
