FORT FAIRFIELD — A fund named after a former resident is kicking off the new year by requesting interested local nonprofits submit applications for grants currently available through the organization.

“The advisors of the Ruth Reed Mraz Family Memorial Fund have announced a grant opportunity for nonprofit organizations serving Fort Fairfield,” said Randall Mraz, spokesperson.

Mraz said the fund was established in 2008 in memory of Ruth Reed Mraz, a Fort Fairfield native and life-long resident. The fund is managed by the Maine Community Foundation.

“She had a keen interest in her hometown, in particular preserving its history, beauty and traditions. The fund was created to support such projects that benefit the community,” said Mraz.

Any nonprofit serving Fort Fairfield may apply for a grant of up to $2,000.

“Applications may be obtained by contacted the Fort Fairfield Town Office or the public library,” Mraz said.

The application deadline is Feb. 15 and the successful grantee will be notified by March 15.
