DHHS to meet with parents, guardians
PRESQUE ISLE — Central Aroostook Association will host an event designed for parents and guardians of children and adults with developmental disabilities. This informative event is free and open to the public and will be held Thursday, Jan. 31 at 6 p.m. at OTC, a special purpose private school located at 25 Lombard St. in Presque Isle.
Representatives from the Office of Aging and Disability Services, an office within the Maine Department of Health and Human Services, will visit the association to discuss the current situation for individuals who need residential options, adult day programs, and community or home supports as an adult.
Lynne Raymond, resource coordinator; Juanita Goetz, program administrator and Terry Kinney, caseworker intake coordinator, will be discussing what the current situation is for individuals with developmental disabilities and their families when transitioning from children’s services and the educational system to adult services and case management. The Office of Aging and Disability Services and Central Aroostook Association would like to take this evening to help families become informed consumers of the services available as children leave school and look for new opportunities and supports as adults.
After parents are given the opportunity to have a question-and-answer session with the DHHS representatives, Central Aroostook Association’s Executive Director Stephen Richard will also speak. Afterwards, the evening will continue in an open-house type fashion, with each program having individual booths set up for guests to visit and ask questions. Light refreshments will be provided.
