Alpine and Nordic meets held in Valley

Lonesome Pine Ski Trails was the site of an alpine ski meet, which took place Saturday.
The event was slalom only, with both the girls and boys competing against the clock in morning and afternoon runs.
In the girls’ morning slalom, the Warriors’ Alexa Pelletier was the race winner with a time of 1 minute, 26.82 seconds for her two runs. Teammate Danielle Ouellette was second, followed by Emma Bartlett of Presque Isle in third in 1:35.12 and Samantha Dubay of Fort Kent in fourth in 1:41.33.
Marissa Smith was the fastest skier for Central Aroostook. She was seventh in 1:43.64.
Fort Kent scored 24 points to beat the Panthers, who had 43, for the top spot. Presque Isle was third with 48 and Caribou fourth with 53.
In the afternoon, CA picked up the team victory by posting 36 points. Caribou was second with 48, just ahead of Fort Kent’s 49 and Presque Isle’s 50.
The top five included Ouellette (1:30.13), Taylor Hobbs of Wisdom (1:40.46), Julia Richards of Madawaska (1:40.92) and Paige Garrison of CA (1:41.54).
Shannon Sweeney was Presque Isle’s fastest skier and was sixth in the race with a time of 1:43.56.
For the boys, the morning race was won by Fort Kent’s Brandon Ouellette, whose time was 1:21.87. Andrew Paradis, Ouellette’s Warrior teammate, was second in 1:25.26. Brady Lizotte (1:25.9) and Adam Labbe (1:26.09) completed the FK sweep.
Placing fifth was Cody Clayton of Central Aroostook, who came in at 1:26.7.
Bryce Smith of PI was eighth in 1:29.48.
Fort Kent had a perfect 10 points to win. Central Aroostook was the runner-up with 46, winning in a tie-breaker against PI. Caribou took fourth with 56.
Ouellette made it two wins in a row by claiming first place in the afternoon race in 1:21.16. Paradis, Lizotte and Labbe followed in order, with fifth again going to Clayton in 1:25.34.
Smith was eighth to lead the Wildcats. His time was 1:29.46.
The next alpine meet is Saturday at Big Rock Ski Area in Mars Hill beginning at 9 a.m.
A Nordic meet was held Thursday at Madawaska, with a three-kilometer freestyle format. The Caribou girls and Fort Kent boys were the team champions.
For the girls, sisters Hannah and Lydia Streinz of Katahdin finished one-two. Their times were 13:29 and 14:15, respectively. Caribou held the next four positions.
Bonnie Corey and Danielle Allen were PI’s top performers. Corey came in 17th in 20:46 and Allen 18th in 21:31.
For Fort Fairfield, Veronica Plourde led the way by placing 19th in 22:02.
In the boys’ meet, Kamran Husain of Fort Kent was the winner in 11:11. Fort Fairfield’s Lance McKenney was third in 12:28, with Presque Isle’s Jon Rochester fifth in 13:05.
Ashland’s Malcolm Milligan was 20th in 15:31.
