Young named to Dean’s List

    WEST HAVEN, CT — Allison Young of Presque Isle was named to the Dean’s List at the University of New Haven for the fall 2012 semester.

Full-time undergraduate students must have a 3.5 or better cumulative GPA for the semester to be eligible for the Dean’s List.

Zuras makes AMC honor roll

    Maine students of age 8 to 14 are entitled to congratulations for their outstanding attendance in the American Mathematics Competitions in November of 2012 (referred as AMC 8, 2012). Maine ranked eighth in participation in the competition nationwide.
    These problem solving programs were offered across the state in Gorham, York, Portland, Auburn, Lewiston, Falmouth, Brunswick, Fairfield, Orono, Bangor, Presque Isle and Caribou.
    The students have been taught since their earliest years to distinguish between enjoyable and challenging problem solving as opposed to mathematics learning and instruction of passing procedural tests.
    Everett Zuras of Presque Isle, with a score of 19, made the honor roll for scoring in the top five percent.

SBA to hold conference

    Officials with the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) Maine District Office have announced the Meet Your Northern Maine Lenders and Resource Partners Conference will take place on Jan. 9-10.
    On Jan. 9, the conference will be held from 6-8:30 p.m. at the University of Maine Fort Kent located at 23 University Drive in Fort Kent. On Jan. 10, the conference will take place from 6-8:30 p.m. at the Presque Isle Inn and Convention Center at 116 Main St. in Presque Isle.
    The conference is free to attend and is presented by Northern Maine Development Commission, Maine Centers for Women, Work and Community, USDA Rural Development and the U.S. Small Business Administration.
