WASHBURN – Ethel Marie Spooner, 98, died December 24, 2012, at a Caribou health care facility. She was born December 24, 1914, in Wade, the daughter of John and Myrtie (Butterfield) Kinney.
Ethel spent the early years of her life in the Wade and Washburn area and attended schools in both of those towns. Ethel was a loving aunt to all of her nieces and nephews and helped to take care of many of them at times. Ethel moved to Massachusettes after a while and worked in a few places until she began working for the Massachusetts Commonwealth and stayed there until her retirement. She and her husband, Earl, spent many winters in Florida and summers in Maine. They attended churches both while in Florida and back in Northern Maine.
Ethel is survived by one sister, Gladys Young of Limestone; and three step-children of Florida, Buzz Spooner, Gary Spooner and Carol Hearn; many nieces and nephews; and two sister-in-laws, Florence Kinney of Washburn, and Lantie Kinney of Caribou.
She was predeceased by her parents; her husband, Earl Spooner in 1999; her brothers, Gordon Kinney, John Kinney Jr. and Floyd Kinney; and a sister, Crystal O’Neil.
Family and friends called at Duncan-Graves Funeral Home, 30 Church Street, Presque Isle, from 10 to 11 a.m., Saturday, December 29, where a funeral service was held at 11 a.m. with Rev. Bruce Blakney officiating. Spring interment will be at Crouseville Cemetery. Donations may be made in her memory to Washburn Pentecostal Church, PO Box 502, Washburn, ME 04786.
