KEARNEY, Louise Smith, 98, MARS HILL, November 26, 2012. Arrangements in the care of Duncan-Graves Funeral Home, Mars Hill.

    MARS HILL – Louise Smith Kearney, 98, wife of the late James W. Kearney, died on November 26, 2012, after a brief illness. She was the daughter of Mary Louise and Frank J. Smith. Louise was born on September 26, 1914, in Mars Hill, and was a lifelong resident.
    She was a homemaker and worked with her husband on their busy potato farm. In September, she was presented the Boston Post Cane, emblematic of being the town’s oldest living resident.
    She is survived by two sons, James H. of Mars Hill, Frank S. and daughter-in-law, Marsha of Bradley; and daughter, Mary Kearney and son-in-law, John Reeves of NH and FL. Louise was the loving grandmother of Janice, Kevin, Danielle, Hiram, Travis, Evan, Kasey; and great-grandmother of Kramer, Caleb, Samantha, Luke, Keagan, Gage, Hardin, Frankie, Kadin, Joshua, Hiram and Warrin. Louise is also survived by nieces, Elaine Hechtl of NH and Elizabeth Earle of West Sussex, Great Britain; and nephews, Steven Shaw, Roger Shaw, and Harry Orser of Mars Hill.
    She was predeceased by her brother, Ernest Stevens; sister, Anna Shaw; and grandson, Frank S. Kearney, Jr.
    Her family would like to thank the wonderful volunteers who prepared and delivered her meals each day. They also thank Dr. Nicholas for keeping their mother so healthy and content with her life. A special thank you to the staff at TAMC for their caring ways while she spent her last four days in comfort care.
