Quilt raffle benefits Washburn student’s trip

Lucia Bragg, the sophomore at Washburn High School who has been raising money for the People to People student ambassador trip, held a quilt raffle, with the winner being Barb Bragg.
She would like to thank everyone who so far has donated to her cause, including The Glass Shop, The Elks Club, Washburn Trail Runners, Representative Alexander R. Willette, Larry Bragg, Tracy Bragg and Elaine Churchill.
Lucia’s next fundraiser will be a homemade doll raffle just in time to for Christmas. The doll is being made and donated by Doris Churchill and the raffle will end just in time to give your special someone a beautiful baby doll.
She is also planning a Dec. 7 stew night. For information on the doll raffle or if you have any questions about this program, you can give Lucia a call at 455-8053.
MAKING A DIFFERENCE

On Friday, Oct. 26, the Washburn quilting group Stitchin’ an’ a Givin’ gathered at the Washburn Trail Runner’s Club for Make a Difference Day. The group gathered thorughout the day to make quilts for Hospice of Aroostook. Pictured from left are: Pauline Harris, Kay Butler and Rita Kingsbury.

Winter coats
The Washburn Civic Center has used winter coats in good condition to anyone who may need one this winter. Donated coats are also being accepted. A coat can be picked up at any time when the Civic Center is open or you can go the Washburn Town Office during their normal business hours to obtain a winter coat free of charge. If you have a winter coat in good condition that you are no longer using you can drop it off at the Washburn Civic Center or Town Office. These donations are greatly appreciated; let’s help everyone stay warm this winter.
Playground Project fundraiser
The Crouseville Community Playground Project is raffling off a beautiful handmade queen-sized quilt created by Ruth Flewelling. The drawing will be held on Dec. 1. A maximum of 200 tickets will be sold at $10 per ticket. Anyone wishing to purchase a ticket for the quilt can call Patsy Flewelling at 455-4076. Anyone wishing to make a tax-deductible donation directly to the playground project may contact Patsy Flewelling or any of the committee members for more information. The project will involve the restoration of the basketball court originally built in honor of Lori Corey of Washburn and the replacement of outdated playground equipment at the Milford Libby Memorial Playground in Crouseville.
Rabies Clinic
There will be a Rabies Clinic on Saturday, Dec. 1, from 2-2:30 pm at the Washburn Fire Department, located at 1287 Main St. The clinic is being offered by the Presque Isle Animal Hospital. Rabies shots will be only $10 each for either dogs or cats. If you have any questions please call Lisa Mette at 455-8485. All animals must be either on a leash or contained in a carrier.
Holiday wreaths
The Washburn Educational Tour Group is selling holiday wreaths, available through the end of November. The wreaths can be purchased decorated for $20 or undecorated for $15. Orders can be placed through any of the Italy Tour students, or you can contact Tracy Reed at treed@msad45.net.
Historical Society
The Salmon Brook Historical Society is raffling off a copy of “An Informal History of Washburn” by Ray Carter, copyright 1984. The book is out of print and has been unavailable for many years. The book was generously donated by a member of the Carter family to the Salmon Brook Historical Society for fundraising purposes.
The raffle will be to raise funds towards a new barn roof. The drawing will take place on Dec. 1, making it available to use as a possible Christmas present. Tickets are $1 each or six for $5 and can be purchased from any Washburn Rotary member.
