PRESQUE ISLE — The 2011 Annual Report — now available at City Hall, the Mark & Emily Turner Memorial Library or viewable electronically at www.presqueisle.govoffice2.com — offers more than facts and figures about municipal government and who owes taxes, there’s also an opportunity for one lucky citizen to earn a free meal as part of a trivia contest hosted by the city.

“How Well Do You Know Presque Isle” is a contest designed to test individuals’ knowledge of the community.

“When you pick up your copy of the 2011 Annual Report, you will notice an invitation to be a part of a ‘How Well Do You Know Presque Isle’ game. Throughout the report, there are 10 pictures of various buildings in our ‘downtown’ area,” said Christina Olsen, assistant to Deputy City Manager Martin Puckett.

These aren’t ordinary pictures, said Olsen, they are pictures of the beautiful architectural details of the city’s historical buildings that often go unnoticed on a regular basis.

“Pictures include scrollwork, inlays, dates and designs that our eyes see every day, but our minds just may not be able to place,” said Olsen.

On the last page of the report is an entry form for the game. Olsen said there are 10 spaces — one for each picture.

“We want you to identify which building each picture of architectural detail belongs to. Submit your answers to City Hall and you will be entered into a drawing for a $25 gift certificate to a local restaurant of your choice,” said Olsen.

When submitting your answers, make sure to include your name, address and phone number on the entry form.

City officials are hoping the contest will not only get people looking more closely at the annual report but also at the many unique structures found in Presque Isle.

“The Presque Isle downtown is full of beautiful and historical architecture. It is our hope that by participating in ‘How Well Do You Know Presque Isle,’ you will gain a greater appreciation for the beautiful details that make our downtown unique,” said City Manager Jim Bennett.

“Have fun with the challenge. Get out, look around, explore and enjoy the heritage and history of Presque Isle’s downtown buildings. Take in the beauty of our town,  but most of all, renew your sense of pride in our community,” said Bennett.
