Ashland Recreation Center holds

‘spooktacular’ event

ASHLAND NEWS

Lendall Tarr of the Ashland Recreation Center, along with Jessica Nason, hosted a very “spooktacular” Halloween party Saturday, Oct. 27 at the rec center. The event was a great success with a wonderful turnout of local children and families.

There was dancing with music provided by KC and Company, along with several different games. The main attraction was the haunted house, which by all accounts, was haunted! The costume contest was also enjoyed by all.
The winners of the costume contests were as follows: Ages 0-2: Gwendolyn Eastman (Cutest Costume) and Sadie Trams (Most Spooktacular Costume). Ages 3-5: Macy McLean (Cutest Costume) and Mackenzie Moro (Most Spooktacular Costume). Ages 6-8: Ziggy Bernstein (Most Creative Costume) and Cassie O’Clair (Most Spooktacular Costume). Ages 9-12: Camryn Curtis (Most Creative Costume) and Brianna Carr (Most Spooktacular Costume). Ages 15 to adult: Billie McLean (Most Creative Costume) and Mark Shenk (Most Spooktacular Costume).

Lendall and Jessica would like to thank everyone who donated their time and efforts to make this a successful event for the children and the community. They look forward to doing it again next year.

MARCELLE GAGNON was unrecognizable as a very creepy devil’s helper spooking the riders during a haunted hayride held at her home in Portage Lake.

WHAT A SCREAM! — Greg Daniels scared the daylights out of the riders as the “scary farmer” on the haunted hayride in Portage Lake.

WEREWOLVES ON THE LOOSE — Doug Gagnon of Portage Lake intended to scare the children in his werewolf costume, but instead of scaring the riders, he hitched a ride during the haunted hayride held to raise funds for the Dubois Family Reunion being held as part of the 2014 Acadian Congress family reunion festivities.

GHOSTLY MATTER — Bev Clark did a great job haunting the riders on the hayride at the Gagnon’s in Portage Lake.

It was a scary and fun-filled afternoon on Fox Hill Road in Portage Lake for the Dubois Family Reunion Haunted Hayride fundraiser. John and Marcelle Gagnon graciously hosted the event on their stunning homestead property to assist their family in raising funds for the 2014 Acadian Congress Dubois Family Reunion.

Tractors pulled a total of 97 riders around the property trails while witches, ghosts, werewolves and ninjas appeared out of the woods to scare and frighten those daring enough to take the ride. The Gagnons went all out to make this a truly impressive event. Many members of the Gagnon family, along with friends and community members, joined together to lend a hand for the fundraiser serving drinks and snacks, conducting the hayride and spooking the riders.

They did an awesome job and what a wonderful event to bring the community and families together. Congratulations on such a successful day! The Dubois Family Reunion members are planning more fund-raising events in the future so keep an eye out for them. If they are as entertaining as this, we are all in for a treat.
