PRESQUE ISLE — Community members are invited to attend a Veterans Day memorial service in the Star City.

Sponsored by the Hayward-Frazier VFW Post 2599, the ceremony will be held Sunday, Nov. 11 at 11 a.m. at the Veterans Memorial Park on Main Street in Presque Isle.
“We hold this annual event as a way to honor our veterans who have gone before us, and to honor the ones that are still alive,” said Post Commander Randolph Michaud.
“We’ve invited all the other veterans organizations in town to participate, as well as the Boy and Girl Scouts,” he said. “The commander of each organization has the chance to say something at the memorial and we’ll do a speech and play ‘Taps.’ It’s a solemn event, but a nice one.”
Michaud said he encourages the public to attend.
“This is a chance for people to see what all these organizations do; they don’t normally see us,” he said. “This is one of the few times in the year that we all get together, and someone from the community may have a loved one whose name is on that stone.
“For those that don’t come, we would ask that they keep a veteran in mind,” said Michaud. “Whether it’s a grandfather, father, brother, sister, uncle or whomever … keep them in mind that day. Living or deceased, they made a sacrifice and we should honor that.”
Following the service, which is expected to last 30-45 minutes, attendees are invited to the Post home for coffee and donuts. The Post home is located at 6 State Road.
