WESTFIELD – Curtis R. Lunney, 79, born March 6, 1933, passed away peacefully on October 20, 2012, at his home surrounded with the love of family and friends.
He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Juliet Johnston of Perham and their seven children. He was the proud father of Nancy, Peter, Douglas, Becky, Fred, Dave and Paul. Curtis lives on in the memory of his children and the families they started including: Nancy and Chuck McIntire of Bridgewater, Becky and Bob Burtchell of Mars Hill, Peter Lunney of Westfield, Douglas Lunney of Westfield, Paul and Alicia Lunney of Presque Isle, as well as Fred Lunney of Mars Hill and Dave Lunney of Westfield. Curtis is sadly missed by 17 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. He is survived by three sisters, Mary Ann Brewer of Mesa Ariz., Rachel Brewer of Mars Hill, and Betsy Clements and her husband, George of Southington, Conn. Curtis also leaves behind childhood friend, Jim Taylor and his wife, Roberta of Westfield.
Curtis served in the Army during the Korean War where he was a paratrooper stationed in Germany. He was the proud owner of L & F Leasing and Blaine Truck Garage. He loved to run the roads of Aroostook County and spent countless hours with friends and family at the Northern Maine Truck Stop and Al’s. He taught his family a lot about the business of trucking but more importantly, he taught them how to run a business with integrity. The business was never as important as the friends he met along the way.
Curtis and Judy left a legacy of devotion that will carry on forever. Their marriage is an inspiration to all who met them. They didn’t just say marriage vows, they lived them.
The Lunney family would like to thank the County Dialysis Center in Presque Isle for their kindness and understanding. He enjoyed teasing everyone but loved to tease the nurses at dialysis and it made his day when they played along. He was very blessed to have the loving support of a large family. Curtis was lucky to have the constant support of wife, Judy and son, Dave who never left his side and made sure all his needs were met. Many family members stayed awake countless nights including son, Paul who also made sure the businesses kept running smoothly. Great care was taken to make sure a loving family man was treated with dignity and respect and that he enjoyed the time he had left.
