APPRECIATION DINNER — The board members of Caring Area Neighbors for Cancer Education and Recover (C.A.N.C.E.R.) recently held an appreciation dinner honoring the group’s volunteers. PI-Cancer-dcx-sh-42 The potluck dinner is to thank those who have dedicated their time in various ways, like baking for the monthly bags for local cancer patients.

This is an opportunity for the board members of C-A-N-C-E-R to publicly thank those who have helped the group throughout the year, so that the organization can help others.

The board members are not the best cooks in the world, (we try hard AND some went back for seconds) but those that come to the dinner are the “best people in the world.” Without their monthly dedication to bake, then drop their baked items off at a drop-off spot, (especially through all those winter months), we would not be able to bring love and prayers to each of those people in treatment for cancer. No one pays them for what they bake and wrap. What they do is a loving gift, a giving of support. Doing this is important to them, so those in treatment know they are not alone.

Some guests that come to the appreciation night are survivors themselves and baking each month gives them a chance to give back and to be there to support others that are going through their treatment. They do not want a “thank you.” It is not necessary for their names to be given out. All they want is to have their baked items delivered each month, hoping what they bake brings a smile to someone’s face and a hug to someone’s heart.

All the board members of C-A-N-C-E-R are thankful and grateful for their determination, their prayers and their wanting to be there, as a neighbor helping a neighbor. The appreciation dinner is a chance to stroke them for all they give through the year.
