The American Society of Military Comptrollers, with members from the Defense Finance and Accounting Service at Limestone, will be holding a county-wide event on Saturday, August 18, with proceeds benefiting the Robert J. Poiesz Memorial Scholarship Fund. “The event is called a Ride to Learn Poker Run. All vehicles are welcome,” said Mildred Keegan, chairperson of the event.
For Keegan the ride is of personal importance. Poiesz, who passed away nearly two years ago, was employed by DFAS and served as a city councilor in Presque Isle, but was also Keegan’s father.
Keegan said the event will take place rain or shine. Hands will sell for $5 each or $10 for three. Registration time will be from 9 to 10 a.m. at Bradley’s Citgo ‘N C-Store, located in Presque Isle, with the final checkpoint at Burger Boy on Sweden Street in Caribou.
“The route will take participants from Presque Isle, to Ashland, Eagle Lake, New Sweden and end in Caribou. Hands will be accepted until 4 p.m.,” said Keegan.
Hands must be purchased by adults 18 years of age or older. Prize winners will be determined by raffle, with the grand prize awarded to the highest hand of the day.
