PRESQUE ISLE — Breast Cancer Awareness Month will be ushered in with the official opening of the County Cancer Hall of Courage today — Wednesday, Oct. 3 at 10 a.m. — at The Aroostook Medical Center.

The event, open to the public, will include the introduction of the local breast cancer survivor selected to be the very first to have her story and photo displayed in the recently designated corridor for cancer survivors. It will take place in the East Wing Annex building just outside of TAMC’s Aroostook Cancer Care at the A.R. Gould Memorial Hospital on Academy Street. The honoree and her family will be on hand to officially unveil the pink-framed, large print that features a photo and story summarizing her touching and successful battle with breast cancer.

In addition to the unveiling, the event will also mark the debut circulation for The County’s first-ever pink paper that will be inserted in that day’s Star-Herald, Aroostook Republican and Houlton Pioneer Times. A second special pink insert in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month will appear in that day’s edition of the Fiddlehead Focus in the St. John Valley. Copies of both publications will be available at no charge to attendees at the Oct. 3 event.
