Kiwanis Club selling birthday calendars

    Easton Kiwanis Club members are selling birthday calendars again. If you would like to purchase one and put names on it, call  Loris Allen at 488-6111 or contact Esther Richardson at 488-6101. The cutoff date to order them is Sept. 24 at the latest.

Parents’ Night Out

    There will be a Parents’ Night Out with free babysitting for any family in Easton on Friday, Sept. 29, from 6-8:30 p.m. at the Easton Wesleyan Church. We will be providing your children with a babysitter from ages 4 through grade 6. A pizza supper will be available for free, followed by a movie and game time. We will have games for all ages, a playroom for the little ones, and Wii, laser tag and other games for the older kids. Call Pastor Vaughn at 227-3589 to make a reservation.

Monster Ball

    Come party the spooky night away. Free food and drinks. A live deejay will be back to rock the party. All the monsters come at 7 p.m. and leave at 11 p.m. Price at the door will be $6 or $5 if you come in a costume. The party is open to all area school student in 7th grade and up. Join the dance-off monster style and compete for the best costume award. It will be held at the Odd Fellow’s Hall in Easton on Oct. 26. This will be sponsored by the Easton Community Fundraising Pageant.

Sympathy

    Our deepest sympathy goes out to the family of Claude Foren who passed away. He will be missed by all.

Athlete injured

    Kennedy Young, a senior  at Easton Jr./ Sr. High School, will be laid up from soccer season with a broken leg. Kennedy’s leg was broken at a recent soccer game and she had to be taken to Bangor for surgery. She is a remarkable young lady and is an excellent athlete. Kennedy, you are in our thoughts and prayers for a very speedy recovery.

Hafford recognized

    Jared Hafford of Easton was chosen by WAGM for Athlete of the Week. Jared plays goalie for Easton’s soccer team and does a great job. Keep up the good work, Jared. We are proud of you.

Athletes of the Week

    Two students were chosen to be Athletes of the Week by the Varsity Club in Easton. Chosen were Kylee Carter, a sophmore, and Logan Dickinson, also a sophmore.

    Congratulations to both of you. We are so proud to have such great athletes in our school. Thank you for putting in so many long, tiring hours of practice and for all the bumps and bruises you get along the way to win.

Apollo 11: The Eagle has Landed

    On Saturday, Sept. 20, at 7 p.m. (8 p.m. Atlantic) the Francis Malcolm Institute Planetarium proudly remembers and honors astronaut Neil Armstrong in presenting “Apollo 11: The Eagle Has Landed.” This hour-long sky show reviews the historic NASA mission to the moon. Come relive that historic “small step” which transformed our nation and world forever.

    Observations of the harvest full moon and related sky wonder will follow the program (weather permitting). Host Larry Berz encourages you to bring your own telescope to rest under the shadow of “Goliath.” Aroostook County’s largest operational telescope. For more information and reservations call 488-5451. The Center is located at 776 Houlton Rd. in Easton.

Rec fall activities

    Fall booklets have been distributed through the Easton schools. If you are an Easton resident and have not received a copy, please pick one up at the Town Office or e-mail recreation@eastonme.com and a digital copy can be sent. 

    The following are some of this fall’s offerings:

• Archery will be held Sept. 24 and 27 from 9-10:30 a.m. for grades 3-5 and 10:30-noon for grades 6 and up at Easton Elementary School. The cost is $17. Must have at least 15 participants. Pre-registration is required.

    Kyle Flewelling was a runner at a recent Easton soccer game and did a great job even though he had a broken arm.

• Little Kickers — This program is designed for boys and girls in kindergarten and younger (recommended ages is 4 and up) to learn the game of soccer. Let the Rec Department know if your child will be participating so you can be kept informed of any changes. The group will meet every Thursday in September from 5-6 p.m. on the field behind the playground. There are no games at this age level, just an opportunity to learn and have fun!

    WHO SAYS YOU CAN’T TAILGATE at a soccer game? Scott Allen is grilling up hamburgers, hotdogs and sausage at one of Easton’s recent away soccer games.

• Swim lessons will be held at the Presque Isle Indoor Pool and are open to children ages 4 and older. Students will be split by abilities by ages, with the exception of the youngest group. All lessons will be 50 minutes, with the exception of the  youngest group running 30 minutes. Classes will be held on Mondays and Fridays at 1 p.m. from Sept. 17 through Oct. 5. The bus departs at12:30 p.m. and will return at 2:20 p.m. The cost is $21 ($16.50 for an additional child). 

• Fall Cooking Camp will be offered Oct. 1, 2, 4 and 5 from 9:30 a.m.-noon at the Hall. The cost is $15. Open to grades 1 and up. The theme will be “County Fair” — we’ll be making jams/jellies and pickles, etc. We will be serving the seniors dinner on Friday at 11:15 a.m. Please invite grandparents; the cost is $3. 

• Gymnastics Clinic will be offered by All-Star Gymnastics on Oct. 2 and 4.

Rec calendar

• Wednesday, Sept. 19 — Field trip to TreeGo in Mactacquac. The bus departs at 8:30 a.m. and will return by 4:30 p.m. The cost is $25. Please bring a bag lunch! There are some specifics for this trip: to do the course you must be able to reach 5’11” with feet flat on ground. We’ll begin by getting comfortable with equipment, then it’s on to rope swings and climbing trees; then you’ll zip through the forest and walk across moving obstacles. Adults are welcome to join us. • Thursday, Sept. 20 — Grades 3 and 4 soccer game vs. Washburn at home at 9 a.m. Players should be at the field by 8:45 a.m. Dance Camp from 10:30-11:30 a.m. at All-Star Gymnastics. The bus departs at 10 a.m. and returns by 11:50 a.m. Girls Only at the Hall from 12-2 p.m. Little Kickers soccer program from 5-6 p.m. on the field behind the playground.

• Friday, Sept. 21 — Playgroup at the Hall from 9:30-11 a.m. for children kindergarten and younger. Senior Game Day at the Hall starting at 11 a.m. Please bring a bag lunch. Swim lessons; must be pre-registered. Bus departs for Presque Isle pool at 12:30 p.m. and will return by 2:20 p.m.

• Saturday, Sept. 22 — Fifth and Sixth grade round robin in Madawaska, times TBA.

• Monday, Sept. 24 — Archery clinic at the elementary school from 9-10:30 a.m. for grades 4-6 and 10:30 a.m.-noon for grades 6 and up. Swim lessons; bus departs for the Presque Isle pool at 12:30 p.m. and will return by 2:20 p.m. Zumba from 6-7 p.m. in the elementary school cafeteria. 

• Tuesday, Sept. 25 — Hunter Brothers’ Farm Trip departing at 10:30 a.m. and returning at 2:30 p.m. The cost is $12. This year’s corn maze celebrates the 175th anniversary of John Deere. We will go on a hay ride and play in the “field of fun.” New features this year include a spider web and corn cannon; other activities are  a pedal cart track, giant slides, a jumping pillow, the tire park, a straw castle, the cow car train, duck races, swings and Snack Shack. Players should be in Fort Fairfield by 4:15 p.m., game at 4:30 p.m. First 5th and 6th grade soccer practice from 5-6:15 p.m. on girls’ soccer field.
