The Northern Maine Community College Falcons played three games this past week, winning the first one and losing the other two.
The first was last Wednesday’s 3-1 victory over EMCC in Bangor.
The hosts began the scoring at 39:30 of the first half as Aaron Elkins converted a pass from Tyler Kelley. A defensive mistake by EMCC at 41:07, where the player kicked the ball into his own net, allowed the Falcons to tie the game at the half.
Brandon Anthony scored an unassisted goal 17:03 into the second half to give the Falcons the lead for good. Josh Allen then converted a pass from Anthony to provide an insurance goal. NMCC goalkeeper Brad MacKenzie made 13 saves on 17 shots.
NMCC then suffered two heart breaking losses over the weekend as CMCC scored with 15 minutes to play to break a 1-1- tie and hold on for Saturday’s 2-1 win. Anthony scored the lone Falcon goal at 9:03 of the first half. CMCC then tied the game at 17:24 of the first half as Alex Lyons converted a pass from Jacob Roy. George Clement notched the game winner with an unassisted goal at 24:18 of the second half. MacKenzie had six saves on 19 shots.
On Sunday the Falcons hosted Unity College on the PIMS turf field. The Rams struck first at 1:49 when Jacob Scouille scored an unassisted goal. Neither team was able to score again until the second half when NMCC tied the score at the 5:11 mark as Pat Goodall took an Allen pass and beat keeper Brandon Wallace. Falcon striker Anthony gave the Falcons a 2-1 lead at the 20:08 mark when he receive a pass from Cory Robinson and beat Wallace with a high shot into the left corner of the net.
With just 4:47 left in the game, Scouille scored his second goal and eventually send the game into overtime. In the extra session, Unity’s Alfred Brown lofted a high shot that just went under the crossbar at 5:29 to give the Ram’s the win. MacKenzie had 16 saves on 25 Unity shots. The Falcons dropped to 1-3 on the season. The Falcons’ next game is this evening at 5:50 p.m. at PIMS as the UM-Machias Clippers come to town.
