HAMMOND, Eleanor R., 87, Presque Isle, at Brunswick, September 11, 2012. Arrangements are in the care of Giberson-Dorsey Funeral Home, Fort Fairfield.
PRESQUE ISLE & BRUNSWICK – Eleanor R. Hammond, 87, slipped from our arms to unite with her Heavenly Father on Tuesday, September 11, 2012. She resided with her daughter and son-in-law, Sherry and Brian Prosser at their home in Brunswick, Maine, where they lovingly cared for her for the past eight years. Our most giving and loving mother, grandmother, sister and friend, was born in Westfield, Maine on September 29, 1924 as the daughter of Clinton A. Bell and Verna E. (McPherson) Bell. She was married to Harold H. Hammond on January 24, 1942, who predeceased her on February 8, 1983 in Bristol, CT. They were married for 42 years.
All who knew her would concur; she embodied the most vibrant personality and giving heart of an angel here on earth. Her strong faith in the Lord was always evident to those around her, what a prayer warrior she was!
She is survived by four generations: two daughters, Bonnie G. Fuller and husband, Karl, of Easton, ME, and Sherry A. Prosser and husband, Brian of Brunswick, ME; her sister, Chavala F. Kinney of Clayton, NM; nine grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews; sisters-in-law, Elizabeth C. Bell of Middlebury, CT and Serita Hammond of Houlton, ME. Of special note to the individuals who shared Eleanor’s life on a daily basis and were so very dear to her heart; niece, Connie J. Violette of Orange City, FL; sister-in-law, Avis M. Durost of Houlton, ME: daughter-in-law, Brenda L. King of Becket, MA; and dear friends, Bonnie Bouchard of Bristol, CT and Shirley Ouellette of Presque Isle, ME. In addition to her husband and parents, Eleanor was predeceased by her son, Bernard H. Hammond, Waterbury, CT; sister, Geneva A. Dickinson, Stetson, ME; and four brothers, Donald A. Bell, Naugatuck, CT, William Virgil Bell, Wilton, ME, Robert H. Bell, Middlebury, CT and Fred A. Fullerton, Bangor, ME.
Without her, our hearts are broken and our tears endless, but her joyous laughter and delightful smile will never leave our thoughts. “Till we meet again, know we will keep and protect your memories forever in our hearts, while you dance with the angels.”
A graveside service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m., Friday, September 21, 2012 at Estes Park Cemetery, Easton, ME with the Rev. Merritt Durost officiating. Those who wish may contribute in memory of Mrs. Hammond to the Mark and Emily Turner Memorial Library, 39 Second Street, Presque Isle, ME 04769. Envelopes will be available at the service. Arrangements have been entrusted to Giberson-Dorsey Funeral Home, 144 Main Street, Fort Fairfield.
