Daigle Oil Company expands County presence

FORT KENT AND PRESQUE ISLE — Daigle Oil Company (DOC) and Maine Potato Growers, Inc. (MPG) announced they have entered into a binding agreement on Sept. 4, 2012 for DOC to acquire MPG Energy.

DOC will take on MPG Energy’s petroleum division only, which makes up the heating oil, propane, diesel, gasoline and service portion of the business. MPG will maintain ownership of the Lubricants Division and continue with all its divisions to focus on serving the needs of the agricultural and resource-based industries throughout the state.

Strategically, this opportunity is a great fit for DOC adding to their existing presence in the greater Presque Isle and Houlton markets. DOC will employ MPG Energy employees including delivery drivers, service technicians and customer service representatives.

“The addition of MPG Energy allows us to expand our petroleum, heating, cooling, and alternative energy offerings to a new customer base,” said President Don Vaillancourt. “We look forward to serving these customers and to welcoming MPG Energy’s employees into the DOC family.”

Both companies share similar values of customer service, safety and longevity and maintain strong reputations in the communities they serve. MPG has been serving the area since 1932 and DOC since 1955, each carrying a loyal customer base.

“In order to maintain an edge in today’s competitive market, it is necessary for MPG to focus its resources,” said President and CEO Pierre Patenaude. “The sale of the Energy division will provide opportunities for growth in MPG’s other core divisions.” MPG’s current portfolio includes Crop Services, Truck & Tractor, Lubricants, Grain and Potato Marketing, ACE Hardware, and a retail location in Houlton.

DOC assures they will maintain MPG’s tradition of excellent service to the residents and businesses throughout the area making the transition as seamless as possible. “We are confident that our customers are in good hands,” added Patenaude. “They will continue to receive the high standard of product and service they are accustomed to receiving from MPG. We are thankful to have served MPG’s energy customers over the years.”

MPG Energy customers may use the same phone numbers and visit the MPG Energy offices located in Presque Isle (207-764-7370) and Houlton (207-532-2289) to address all their energy needs or questions. In time, the MPG Energy offices will be relocated into DOC office locations and, as that date approaches, customers will formally be notified of the changes.

Daigle Oil Company is northern and central Maine’s trusted energy resource providing residences and businesses with a range of products and services. DOC delivers oil, kerosene, propane, bulk pellets, gasoline and diesel; installs and services heating and cooling systems and sells alternative heating options including wood and pellet boilers, pellet stoves, solar and geothermal systems.
