Alumni, community
invited to NMCC Homecoming activities
PRESQUE ISLE — Northern Maine Community College will host Homecoming 2012 activities Thursday, Sept. 6 and Friday, Sept. 7 on the NMCC campus in Presque Isle.
“We really wanted to draw more people from campus into this year’s Homecoming activities,” said Cindy Albert, a 1984 graduate of the college and one of the organizers of the event. “We’re offering a number of the activities on Thursday evening, a time when more students are here on campus than the weekend. We’ve also involved a couple of NMCC’s student organizations to draw their input and support of the activities. I think we have a great couple of nights planned, and I really hope that some of my fellow alumni, as well as others in the community, will join us.”
Things get under way Thursday evening with entertainment from Tim Humphrey, better known as Tim the Tune Man, a disc jockey/entertainer from the Houlton area. He will be playing a variety of music from 4-6 p.m. in front of the college’s dining commons.
A free barbecue dinner, taking place from 4:30-6 p.m., is being sponsored by NMCC’s Student Senate.
After dinner, alumni are invited to join NMCC employees to form a softball team that will face off against a student team. The groups will warm up in front of Andrews Hall beginning at 6 p.m. and then move across campus to play under the lights at the NMCC soccer field at 6:30 p.m.
To round out the evening Thursday, local band Dan Rooney & the Revolvers will perform under a tent in front of the Christie Building. The group is slated to play from 8:30-10:30 p.m., and admission is free and open to the public. This performance is being sponsored by the college’s chapter of Phi Theta Kappa, the student honor organization.
On Friday, the annual Alumni Dinner & Awards marks an opportunity for alumni and others to visit campus, meet up with old friends, and network with other alumni and professionals. The evening will include the honoring of Judy Hilton of Presque Isle as the recipient of this year’s Torchbearer Award and Jen Graham of Fort Kent as the 2012 NMCC Instructor of the Year.
The cost for attending the alumni dinner is $25 and pre-registration is required. Those interested in attending should contact Shannon Cook in NMCC’s alumni office at 760-1188.
Questions regarding the Homecoming activities or requests for tours of the campus on Thursday or Friday can be also be directed to the college relations office at 768-2809.
