Carter leads Bears to 3 victories
Sophomore Kylee Carter scored eight goals and notched two assists for the Easton Bears last week as her team put together a 3-0 week in varsity girls soccer action.
In Saturday’s 8-2 home victory over Limestone-MSSM, Carter totalled four goals and set up another to lead the offense. Taylor Brown, Carla Halvorson, Kerrigan Arnett and Mariah Cyr also scored for the Bears, while goalkeeper Hannah Ferris saved 11 of 14 shots.
Mariah Williams and Shania Bell each tallied goals for the Eagles. Goalie Jordyn Hopkins recorded 18 saves on 35 shots.
On Thursday, Carter netted the game-winner off a Cassie Buck assist with 3:30 to play as Easton edged Fort Fairfield in another home match, 3-2.
Taylor Brown scored off a Carter assist in the first half and Halvorson furnished the game-tying goal 10 minutes into the second half.
Emily Blaisdell and Janae Libby both scored unassisted goals for FF.
Ferris made 15 saves on 18 shots, while the Tigers’ Megan Jellison turned away 13 of 21.
Last Tuesday, Carter scored three times, Cyr added a pair of goals and Halvorson the other in the Bears’ 6-4 win over Ashland, played in Easton. Buck had three assists and Ferris saved eight of 20 shots.
Savannah Flint had two goals, while Kayla Cote and Marissa Chasse netted one each for the Hornets. Cote and Caitlin Paradis chipped in with assists and goalkeeper Macie Bellanceau collected 11 saves on 28 shots.
In other girls games, Fort Fairfield bested Limestone-MSSM last Wednesday, 6-0, behind two goals and an assist each by Blaisdell and Logan Bubar. Beckah Pelkey added two goals and freshman Morgan Towle two assists for Fort.
Central Aroostook evened its record at 2-2 after blanking both Southern Aroostook (1-0) and Wisdom (2-0) last week. Karli Levesque scored the lone goal against SA last Wednesday, while sisters Molly and Marissa Anthony each popped in a goal against the Pioneers.
The Ashland girls shook off the loss to Easton by handing Washburn its first loss of the season Friday, 3-2. Leeann McNally, Rachel Gillis and Kayla Cote all had goals for the Hornets, with Mackenzie Worcester and Tyra Shaw netting the Beaver goals. Ashland prevailed despite being outshot, 19-12.
Washburn blasted Van Buren last Wednesday to avenge last year’s playoff loss to the Crusaders. Joan Overman scored five goals and Worcester posted a hat trick in the 12-1 victory. Parise Rossignol scored the lone VB goal.
On the boys’ side, Presque Isle made its regular season debut at home last Tuesday and managed a 1-1 tie against Fort Kent. The Warriors scored the game’s first goal late in the first half, but the Wildcats’ Ben Nickerson knotted the score with a second-half tally.
The Ashland Hornets defeated both Easton and Washburn last week and were 3-0 heading into yesterday’s home match against the Bears.
Last Tuesday, Ashland recorded a 3-0 shutout victory behind goals from Mark Chasse, Tyler Chasse and Isaac Cyr and the goalkeeping of J.J. Dozier, who had 10 saves on 16 shots.
On Friday, the Hornets were impressive in a 4-1 win at Washburn. Michael Cook scored two goals, while Tyler Chasse and Cody Blair had the others in the victory. Nick Bragg’s successful penalty kick accounted for the Beavers’ lone goal.
Washburn had beaten Van Buren last Wednesday, 5-1, with Mitch Worcester and Alex Pelletier scoring goals each and Bragg notching three assists.
Easton blanked Fort Fairfield, 3-0, on Thursday as Logan Halvorson, Drew Sotomayor and Ian Sotomayor had the goals. Jared Hafford and Cody Halvorson combined on the shutout in goal.
The Tigers also fell at home to Limestone last Tuesday, 2-0.
The Central Aroostook Panthers earned a tie against Southern Aroostook last Wednesday as Connor Boulier and Dane Kingsbury had goals in the 2-2 deadlock. Spencer Garrison made five saves on seven shots for CA, who fell at Wisdom Friday, 3-0.
