Town ready for Summerfest

ACI and Central Aroostook Homecoming Days will take place from Friday, Aug. 3, to Sunday, Aug. 5, in Mars Hill.
Friday’s events will be located in the fire station park area unless otherwise noted and include: 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., Katahdin Trust Customer Appreciation Day at the bank; and 4:30-6 p.m., Old-Fashioned Car Hop Service sponsored by the Mars Hill Rotary Club. There will also be ‘50s and ‘60s music by DJ Bob Collins. At 4:15 p.m. will be bike decorating at the fire station, before the 5:15 p.m. Kids Americana Bike Parade on the east side of Main Street. At 5:30 p.m., there will be a performance by All Star Gymnastics. From 6-8 p.m., there will be Kids Carnival Games. From 6-7:30 p.m., as part of TAMC‘s 100-year celebration, Molly the Trolley will take folks to and from the nursing home for an ice cream social. There will also be a performance by the All-Star Dance Team at the nursing home. At the fire station, there will be Pampered Chef Bingo. From 8-11 p.m., there will be laser tag and Gyro Scope at the fire station park; and from 9 p.m. to midnight will be a Teen Dance with music by DJ Bob Collins in the parking lot.
Saturday will start at 8 a.m. at Big Rock with the Toughest Mile Race — up the slopes to the top of the mountain! From 9 a.m. to noon will see a Farmers’ Market on North Main Street. The parade will begin at 10 a.m. Events planned at the high school begin at noon with the Firemen’s Muster, the Antique & Classic Car Show, FFA Petting Zoo, Giant Slip ‘n Slide, Bungee Basketball and the Dunking Booth. The soccer field will be in action as the Recreation Grade 3 and 4 teams play Round Robin-style vs. Washburn and Ashland. The CA Boosters Food Booth will be open and Dough Boys, Cotton Candy and Snow Cones will be available. From 1-2 p.m., the Pet Show will be on tap with the winner chosen by People’s Choice. At 3 p.m., the Varsity Girls’ Soccer Team will compete against Houlton, with the Boys’ Varsity taking the field at 5 p.m. From 5:30-7 p.m. will be a Chicken barbecue by the fire department. A Comedy / Magic Show featuring Roland Perry will be the last event for the day at 7:30 p.m. at the Mars Hill and Blaine Community Center.
Sunday’s events include: Bobbi’s Build An Ear Bike Ride taking off from Big Rock at noon. The town pool will be open from 12-4 p.m. At the Mars Hill and Blaine Community Center, from 1-3 p.m., there will be a Baked Bean Dinner sponsored by the CA Varsity Boys’ Soccer Team. Fireman Fred will provide music at 1 p.m. and historical trolley rides will be available from 1-3 p.m. Duane Grass and Chappy Clark will be the hosts. A Family Golf Tournament will take place at the Country Club at 1 p.m. Also at the Community Center, beginning at 1:30 p.m., there will be many fun games like three-legged races, sack races, egg and water balloon tosses and eating contests.

The ACI Class of 1952

The ACI Class of 1952 held their 60th reunion on Saturday, July 21, at the Mars Hill and Blaine Community Center. TRUCK FIRE

A truck owned by Sargent and Tweedie of Mars Hill was destroyed by fire on Tuesday, July 24, in the parking area beside the Mars Hill Town Office on Main Street. The fire spread to a nearby trailer, also belonging to Sargent and Tweedie. No one was inside the truck at the time of the fire, although the driver lost his canine traveling companion. Fire officials believe the fire may have been electrical in nature.
Book sale
The Walter T.A. Hansen Memorial Library continues with their ongoing book sale. Hardcovers are 50 cents and paperbacks are 25 cents each. There are both fiction and non-fiction. Stop by and check it out!
Rotary Club
The Mars Hill Rotary Club met Tuesday morning, July 24, at the Aroostook Health Center. Club members discussed the upcoming Car Hop Dinner that will be done on Friday, Aug. 3, at the Mars Hill Fire Department parking area.
Pet Show
As part of the upcoming summer activities, the Walter T.A. Hansen Memorial Library is sponsoring a Pet Show on Saturday, Aug. 4. From 1-2 p.m. at the high school, those who want to show off their pets are welcome to participate. For extra “cuteness” you can dress to match your entry!
The Best of Show will be determined by People’s Choice. Voting will take place by dropping donations into your favorite pet’s jar, which will be on a table in the parking lot. Whichever jar has the most money will win a $25 Walmart gift certificate.

This is not limited to cats and dogs. However, all animals must be leashed or otherwise contained! Proceeds will be used to benefit the library.
Aroostook Health Center
Upcoming events for the week of Aug. 1-7 include: Wednesday will have the Beauty Parlor at 8:30 a.m., Moving to Music at 9:30 a.m. and Residents Council at 1:30 p.m.; Thursday has the Beauty Parlor at 8:30 a.m., Bingo at 9:30 a.m. and BYF Potluck Dinner at 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 3, will feature Crossword Puzzles at 9:30 a.m., Patio Social at 1:30 p.m. and Sundae Social Sock Hop in the parking lot at 6 p.m. Saturday will feature the Lawrence Welk Show at 5 p.m.; Sunday will have Sunday Service with Jonathan at 1:30 p.m. Monday will feature Reminiscing the 1950s at 9:30 a.m., Catholic Mass at 1:30 p.m., Piano Music with Judie at 2:15 p.m. and Gospel Group at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 7, will have the Beauty Parlor at 8:30 a.m., Bingo at 9:30 a.m. and a Skip-Bo Tournament at 1:30 p.m. All of these activities are subject to change. Bridgewater Historical Association
The Bridgewater Historical Association would like to welcome everyone back to their hall for Thursday night music with Outside In. The music runs from 6-9 p.m. So, if you find yourself bored and want something to do, come on out and have some fun at the BHA Hall. Come to dance or just sit and listen. All are welcome.
Community Cupboard
The food pantry serves the communities of Westfield, Mars Hill, Blaine, Robinson, E-Plantation and Bridgewater.
The cupboard is open the second Tuesday of each month from 1-3 p.m. and the fourth Tuesday of each month from 6-8 p.m. at the Mars Hill and Blaine Community. If you have questions, call Cathy Cropley at 429-8043.
