Taking the first step
To the editor:
Like many of you out there, I sometimes grow weary of listening to politicians who make promises based on what they think we want to hear. Most of them have become condescending and speak to the American public as if we are children who will believe anything. But just when you think that you can’t take another conversation with a “Public Servant,” along comes a candidate who speaks from his heart and not from talking points put out by the party. His name is Darrell Adams and he is a candidate for the State House District 6.
What impressed me so much about Darrell was his insistence that the problems facing our country, in general, and our district, specifically, were ones that could be surmounted if first we admit to ourselves that the current way our government does business is not working. It is Darrell’s contention that the dialogue used by our politicians is not the way the people of Aroostook County speak to one another, no matter the party affiliation. He believes that it is not a badge of honor to say that you will toe the party line. He thinks this to be the sign of a follower, not a leader.
Over the next few months, many of you will have a chance to meet Darrell and his lovely wife Lorette. Whether you are a Democrat or a Republican, I would ask you to listen and see if you don’t agree that facing our problems like Americans is preferable to hiding behind half truths, innuendo and outright falsehoods that have become the norm for many of our politicians.
Darrell knows that sometimes the “American Dream” is paying the rent and utilities in the same month. Give Darrell a listen and decide for yourselves and together, maybe we can take that first step.
