PRESQUE ISLE – Gerald J. LeVasseur, 70, passed away on June 25, 2012, at a Bangor hospital. He was born in Limestone on August 19, 1941. Gerald was one of eight children to Luke and Artheline (Madore) LeVasseur.
Gerald worked for 23 years as a service station manager for MPG Inc. on Main Street in Presque Isle. He then worked all over Aroostook County for Irving Oil, managing service stations for them as well.
Gerald could make just about anything out of wood. He had a large woodshop at his home where he had made hope chests, furniture, shelves and swings, to name just a few. Everything he made had a heart marked on it as his woodworking signature.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Rosalie Mae (Doak) LeVasseur; three daughters, Sally J. and her husband, Rev. Bruce Blakney of Washburn, Laurie and her husband, Donald Hoey of Thomasville, NC, and Gerry and her husband, Jeffery Bubar of Brewer; and a son, Larry and his wife, Lynn LeVasseur of Portland. He also leaves behind 10 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. He will also be missed by five sisters, Lillian LeVasseur of Mechanicsville, NY, Velma Lovelette of Raymond, Suzanne and her husband, Steve Cole of Bangor, Linda and her husband, Ken Tilsley of Fort Fairfield, Patty and her husband, Glen Nielson of Ashland; and a brother, Roland and Kitty LeVasseur of Presque Isle. In addition, he leaves behind many nieces and nephews; and a special friend of the family, Ramona Alley of Washburn.
Gerald was predeceased by his parents; and his brother, Norman LeVasseur of Dansville, NY.
Friends and family called on Thursday, June 28, 2012, from 12-2 p.m. at Duncan Graves Funeral Home, 30 Church Street, Presque Isle, where a service followed at 2 p.m. A reception followed the services at the funeral home.
