Rain limits LL play in Mapleton
Buck Farms and Buck Construction met up June 25 to get week two action under way in the Mapleton Little League.
The game started much like those of last week, with neither team getting an advantage through the first three innings. Thomas Patenaude of Buck Construction and Dakota Morrow of Buck Farms did their best on the mound keeping the bats quiet, and both got by with a little help from their friends.
Buck Construction’s Cole Paterson hit a high fly ball behind third base, but Carter Rice was able to track it down for the out. Paterson was able to return the favor in the bottom of the second, as he snared a rocket shot off the bat of Rice for the third out of the inning. Jake Kinney also flashed the leather for Buck Construction in the bottom of the second, stretching to stop an Erick Tompkins liner that was headed to the gap in left center field.
Buck Construction was finally able to break into the scoring column in the fourth inning. Caleb Wheaton set the table by drawing a leadoff walk. He came around to score courtesy of a Patenaude double. After a strikeout, Kinney crushed a triple to bring in Patenaude. Emily Wheaton’s single scored Kinney, giving their side the 3-0 advantage.
Buck Farms threatened in the bottom of the fourth, as Morrow singled and Tompkins was hit by a pitch. After a double steal, Buck Farms was poised to break through, putting runners on second and third with one out. Patenaude, on the hill for Buck Construction, came through with two huge strikeouts to extinguish the threat.
Buck Construction pushed two more runs across in the fifth inning, as Brian Ellis scored off a Jarnell Edwards-Robidou single, then Edwards-Robidou came around on Patenaude’s second double of the game.
Buck Farms tried once more for a rally in the fifth. Alex White reached via a walk to start things off, racing around to third on a Will Bridges hit. Emily Wheaton, playing first base, gobbled up a hot shot from Ricky Goupille to help retire the side with a fine catch as Buck Construction held on for the 5-0 win.
After Mother Nature forced a two-day break from the action, Fox Family Chips and Buck Farms took the field for a Thursday evening showdown. The Fox Family Chips offense proved to be too much, plating runs in the first, third, fourth and fifth innings en route to the 12-2 victory.
Buck Farms threatened to jump out to the early lead after a two-out double by Morrow, but TJ Lovely’s diving stop on a screaming grounder from Tompkins allowed Fox Family Chips to escape unscathed.
Griffin Guerrette helped put Fox Family Chips up in the bottom of the first, doubling in the first inning before coming around to score on an RJ Gross double. Gross extended the lead to 2-0 after getting knocked in by a Colin Daigle hit. Griffin, Gross and Daigle all came around to score in the third inning as well, with Lovely picking up an RBI with a bases-loaded walk.
Buck Farms got one of those runs back in the top of the fifth as Goupille led off the frame with a double and Morrow knocked him in with a single, then stole second and third base. After a walk to Tompkins, Gross, on the mound for Fox Family, struck out the next two batters before further damage could be inflicted.
Bridges came across to score after singling for the second Buck Farms run, while Colin Daigle, Andre Daigle and Gavin Akeley each scored single runs over the last two innings for Fox Family Chips. Guerrette and Colby Buckley scored twice each over the same span.
