The Central Aroostook High School FFA will be holding a bottle drive Saturday, July 7 from 8 a.m.-noon.

They will be going around Mars Hill, Blaine and Bridgewater collecting bottles and cans. The funds they raise will be used to help FFA members attend the next National Conference.

Rotary Club

The Mars Hill Rotary Club met Tuesday morning, June 26 at the Aroostook Health Center. The special speaker was Heather Sincavage, assistant professor of fine art at the University of Maine at Presque Isle. She spoke about the UMPI Downtown Gallery, slated to open this fall in the space above the Wintergreen Arts Center at 149 State St. in Presque Isle.

Some goals are for the University to have a presence more integrated into the downtown community, to become an avenue for students to venture off campus and engage in their community, to become a teaching space, to collaborate on special community events and arts educational programming for families, and more.

The University plans to showcase some of the art they have not been able to show due to the limited space at the college. They are especially anxious to be able to show some of the 153 photos they received from the Andy Warhol Foundation.

Some special events include the “For Art’s Sake” weekend, “Cocktails and Collecting” Evening for art and antiques, “Souper Bowl,” Outdoor Craft Show and a Light Festival.

Some of the funding already secured has come from the Maine Communities Foundation Aroostook Fund, the Maine Communities Foundation Belva and Harry Morris Memorial Award, and the 10 x 10 Benefit Auction. Grants submitted include the Maine Arts Commission, Steven and Tabitha King Foundation and the Andy Warhol Foundation.
