Duncan speaks to PROBUS

about hospice house in County

The PROBUS Club of Aroostook met at Reed Commons at Northern Maine Community College campus June 21.

Mel Fitzherbert introduced the guest speaker, Rick Duncan, who serves as president of the board of directors for the Aroostook House of Comfort.

Duncan informed the group of his interest in hospice and of the need for a free standing hospice house in Aroostook County. He stressed the tremendous amount of volunteer work that has been completed up to the present time. He said that so far there has been a feasibility study, a business plan, site selection and architect design, with offers for donated time and labor as progress continues.

Duncan said plans are being made for a capitol campaign to begin in the near future. After the talk, he answered questions from PROBUS members and showed pictures of the proposed floor plan and finished Aroostook House of Comfort.

Fitzherbert presented Duncan with a certificate of appreciation from the group.

A short business meeting followed. Pearl Carmichael gave a reading. Richard Barker reported that he presented this year’s PROBUS scholarship to Danielle Dudley of Easton. Priscilla Gallagher and Peggy Woodman volunteered for the nominating committee and will present a slate of officers at the July meeting.
