“Prime 7”
Fitness Program for Kids
The Cary Medical Center Rehabilitation and Sports Medicine Team will be providing a non-sport specific fitness program for kids ages 12-19 in Caribou, Limestone, Easton and Fort Fairfield.
“Prime 7,” focusing on strength, speed, cardiovascular, flexibility, endurance, power and stamina conditioning, will be held beginning on July 9 from 8-9:30 a.m., with five sessions taking place over a two-week period. The cost is $20 per student. All participants receive a free T-shirt.

All-star game
Five local players were selected to the Maine High School Softball Coaches Association East/West Senior All Star Game, which was played Thursday at Cony High School in Augusta.
Making the C-D team were Brooke LaBelle and Anna Paradis, both of Ashland; and Rachael Grew, Victoria McIntyre and Whitney Klein, all of Central Aroostook.
LaBelle had two hits and Paradis doubled in the contest, but the West beat the East, 6-5, in nine innings.
For a player to be selected to the team the players coach must be a member of the coaches association.
2012 Any-Deer Permit
Applications Now Available
Applications for 2012 any-deer (antlerless) permit lottery are now available online from the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife.
A total of 34,160 any-deer permits will be issued in 13 of the state’s 29 wildlife management districts for this year’s whitetail deer hunting season, which begins in late October. It is bucks only in all other wildlife management districts.
Online applications are due by 11:59 p.m. on Aug. 15. Paper applications may be submitted in person or by mail no later than July 27. To apply online, visit www.mefishwildlife.com. The Department no longer mails paper applications.
It is free to apply for the any-deer permit lottery. The drawing will be held on Friday, Sept. 7.

UMPI Owls hoop camp
Jim Casciano, head coach of the University of Maine at Presque Isle men’s basketball team, will direct the UMPI Owls Basketball Camp, to be held July 16-20 at Wieden Gymnasium.
Session I, for grades 1-4, will go from 9 a.m.-noon, while Session II, for grades 5-8, runs from 1-4 p.m.
Each camper will receive individual attention with emphasis on the fundamental skills of basketball. There will be daily games, special contests and giveaways and awards. A free T-shirt will be presented on the final day.
The camp fee is $60, with a non-refundable deposit required by July 9. For more information, call 768-9477.
Golf scramble at AVCC to benefit hoop hall of fame
The second annual Maine Basketball Hall of Fame golf scramble will be held Friday, Aug. 3 at Aroostook Valley Country Club in Fort Fairfield.
This four-person Oldsmobile scramble format will have an 11 a.m. shotgun start, with registration taking place from 10-10:45 a.m. The field is limited to the first 40 paid teams and the entry fee is $50 per person, which includes a steak or chicken barbecue.
More than $4,000 in prizes will be awarded to the top two gross and top eight net teams. A 2012 Ford Focus is the hole-in-one prize, courtesy of Griffeth Ford-Lincoln-Honda. Other contests will also be held.
Proceeds from the tourney will go to the Maine Basketball Hall of Fame, which will be located in a wing of the new Maine Center now under construction in Bangor.
