WALKER, Mildred Ann Casper, 86, CALIFORNIA, June 18, 2012. There will be no calling hours. A family service will be conducted at Arlington National Cemetery.

    CALIFORNIA – Mildred Ann Casper Walker, 86, passed away peacefully at a nursing home in Houlton on Monday, June 18, 2012. She was born in Los Angeles, California, on October 22, 1925, the daughter of William and Johanna (Roth) Casper.
    She was raised in San Gabriel, Calif., and graduated from Sacred Heart Academy in Los Angeles, Calif. in 1943.
    Mildred worked as the administrative assistant to the airport manager at the Northern Maine Regional Airport in Presque Isle for 28 years. She was known for her extensive collection of dog figurines that were displayed in the office, and enjoyed the friendships of everyone who worked at the airport.
    Mildred married Charles Walker, an Air Force serviceman, on October 1, 1948. They were stationed at several state-side bases and Puerto Rico before transferring to Loring Air Force Base in 1962. Upon his retirement in 1973 as a Senior Master Sergeant, Charlie and Mildred made their home in Presque Isle, where they were active members of the Presque Isle Elks Lodge.
    Mildred was predeceased by her husband, Charles Walker; and is survived by her two daughters, Sandra Walker and Jacqueline Heming of Presque Isle; a son, William Walker of Seabrook, Texas; and a grandson, Tristan Russell of Presque Isle. She is also survived by her two sisters, Sisters Dorothy and Evelyn Casper of Mission San Jose, California; a brother, Donald Casper, of Glendora, California, and his six children; and Lottie Ireland of Presque Isle, a special friend of more than 40 years.
    There will be no calling hours. A family service will be conducted at Arlington National Cemetery, where Mildred will be interred beside her husband.
    Mildred had a great love of animals, especially her three dogs Trixie, Sheba, and Lacy. Donations in her memory can be made to either the Central Aroostook Humane Society, P.O. Box 1115, Presque Isle, ME 04769 or to Charley’s Strays, Inc., P.O. Box 64, Clinton, ME 04927.
