FORT FAIRFIELD — A fire the evening of June 12 destroyed a potato house located on the Bryant Pond Road.

Initially, it was believed to be a fire in a wooded area but later was determined to involve a structure.

“At 11:22 p.m. the Fort Fairfield Fire Department responded to a report of a woods fire in the area of 27 Bryant Pond Road in Fort Fairfield. On the arrival of Fort Fairfield Police Sgt. Shawn Newell, he discovered a potato house fully involved, threatening nearby woods,” said Lt. Jesse Bell, Aroostook Fire Protection District 1 (which includes Limestone and Fort Fairfield fire departments).

Bell said automatic mutual aid was sent from the Limestone Fire Department direct to the fire scene.

“Three engines, three tankers, one rescue truck and approximately 14 firefighters responded to the fire, which took an hour to extinguish,” Bell said.

The owner of the potato house was identified as Brock Good. No estimate was given for the damage but the structure was insured.

“There were no civilian or firefighter injuries. The building was a total loss,” Bell said.

Bell said the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
