Summer Reading Program launched

PRESQUE ISLE — The Mark & Emily Turner Memorial Library is asking patrons to dream big and explore the night during their 2012 Summer Reading Program. Children and teens will be able to read their way toward great prizes and participate in library programs that encourage them to learn, create and share!

Young patrons can register to receive a reading log to track their summer reading and collect a variety of prizes, including ticket vouchers to see the Portland Sea Dogs, a free pizza from Pizza Hut and more! In an effort to encourage readers of all ages to join in, registration will be open to independent readers as well as those who read with the help of their families or caregivers. Patrons can register during their library visit or online at www.presqueislelibrary.org.

In addition, the library will be offering several free programs throughout the summer, including family movie matinees and clubs for LEGO builders, comic book creators and those interested in learning computer programming. Community members will stop by every Tuesday in July to share their knowledge on topics ranging from yoga to haunted Aroostook County locations.

The library’s most popular school-year programs, Toddler Time and Tween Book Club, will also continue through the summer at their regularly scheduled times. For older teens and young adults, a weekly anime club will be offered with free film showings of titles from the world of Japanese animation. Teen After-Hours programs will also be held on Friday, June 22 and Friday, July 27, providing a time for teens to hang out, play games, discuss books, listen to their favorite music and explore the library.

The Mark and Emily Turner Memorial library is located at 39 Second St. in Presque Isle and provides access to a collection of nearly 60,000 items, including books, DVDs, magazines, audio resources, and downloadable eBooks and audio books. Patrons also have free access to 11 public access computers and wi-fi access throughout the building. The library’s Wii video gaming system and a selection of board games are also available for use.         For information, call Youth Librarian Dianna Leighton at 764-2571 or e-mail diannaleighton@presqueislelibrary.org.
