PRESQUE ISLE — Dr. James H. Page, the newly selected chancellor of the University of Maine System, will offer the keynote address at Presque Isle High School’s commencement ceremony, which will be held at 7 p.m. Friday, June 8 in the PIHS gymnasium. A ticket is required to attend.
Page is the first person born and raised in Maine to be selected chancellor. The Caribou native received a bachelor of science degree in history from the University of Maine at Fort Kent, attended Harvard University, obtained a master’s degree in philosophy from St. Andrews University in Scotland and received a doctoral degree from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
He began his new duties as chancellor March 20.
Page served as an assistant professor of philosophy at the University of Kansas in the 1990s and as an adjunct professor at the University of Maine since 1998. He was the chief executive officer and part owner of James W. Sewall, Co., an international consulting firm in Old Town, prior to being selected chancellor.
“Dr. Page is in a unique position to address the graduating class about managing change and facing new challenges,” said PIHS Principal Donna Lisnik. “I am sure he will have a very timely message for the PIHS Class of 2012, and it is an honor to have Dr. Page as this year’s keynote speaker.”
