Lidstone United Methodist Church will join other United Methodists around the globe to change the world on May 19-20. The movement, www.rethinkchurch.org/changetheworld, connects United Methodists in service with simple acts of kindness to build community locally and fight malaria globally.
Lidstone United Methodist Church will participate by hosting a hunger awareness meal at the Washburn Civic Center on Saturday, May 19, at 5 p.m. The cost for the evening is a donation of a non-perishable food item to be given to the Ecumenical Food Pantry. Participants will have a chance to experience the inequalities in the world through the distribution of the evening’s meal and there will be drama, music and plenty of fellowship. You will also have a chance to learn about many hunger relief agencies locally, nationally and internationally and how you can help.
Members and friends of Lidstone United Methodist Church are very enthusiastic about raising awareness about hunger and hunger-related issues. Change the World weekend is a wonderful opportunity to empower people of the United Methodist Church to serve beyond the church’s walls. If you would like more information you can call Lisa Reed at 493-0989.

ATV trails open
The Washburn ATV Club members have been very busy the past month, rebuilding the new Rest-a-Bit Picnic area off the 105 Rail Trail north of Washburn. Also, they have been very busy picking up trash along the trails, grading trails by pulling in the sod and running the harrow disc over it and then raking it smooth. The trails they’ve done this to so far are the Carson Siding to the Trail Runners Snowmobile clubhouse, Washburn Boat Landing to the Rest-a-Bit on 105 and Sled Quarters to Crouseville. Roger Hewitt, the president of the club, would like to thank all the members who came out and volunteered their time to make the needed improvements and to make the trails enjoyable.
Trail 105 in town Washburn has been signed for dust control and also for the safety of people walking or riding bikes on the trail. Members have posted 15 mph signs from the Mill Pond to McCain’s and up by the old cemetery. They have also posted 15 mph signs on a short section north of Washburn by the Everette Road crossing due to a person on oxygen. Please help keep the dust down and also to make it safer for others to enjoy the trails. Calcium has been ordered, which will be laid down when members think the time is right.
A club ride is planned for Saturday, May 19. Participants are leaving the ATV clubhouse at 10 a.m. and heading to Presque Isle for lunch and then back to Washburn and up to Salmon Brook Lake picnic area and then back to Washburn. This will be an easy, relaxing ride and all are welcomed to attend.
The next meeting will be held at the Washburn Trail Runners Clubhouse on Wednesday, June 6, with a potluck to start at 6 p.m. and meeting to follow at 6:30 p.m. The meetings will continue to be held at the snowmobile clubhouse for the rest of the season. The club would like to thank the Washburn Trail Runners for the use of the clubhouse.
