Thieves take meters

PRESQUE ISLE — Police are looking for the person(s) responsible for a theft at a Presque Isle Water District facility on Chapman Road that’s believed to have occurred since the first of the year.
Steve Freeman, Water District director, notified the Presque Isle Police Department of the theft of equipment on March 12. Officer Kevin Reed was assigned to investigate.
According to the police report, between $4,000 and $5,000 in meters, various pipe fittings and accessories were taken sometime between January and March 1. The thefts weren’t discovered until Friday, March 9. No forced entry was evident and the case remains under investigation.
