announces names of raffle winners

Thanks to the support of Mars Hill and surrounding towns, this year’s grocery card raffle for the Mars Hill Community Cupboard food pantry raised over $1,000! The two $50 Mars Hill IGA gift cards were won by Deb Johnston and Denise Miller. Everyone connected with the Cupboard would like to thank all those who bought tickets or made donations as well as the volunteers who gave of their time to sell the tickets.
Take It Outside Week

Take It Outside Week was celebrated by pre-K through grade 12 in Mars Hill in February. Pictured is Lauren Jacobs of Maine Winter Sports, handing out boots to students from Fort Street Elementary School.
The SAD 42 students grades pre-K through 12 celebrated Take It Outside Week Feb. 6-10. The teachers were asked to take their students outside to enjoy the great outdoors. The Maine Winter Sports van was available with cross country skis. Mike Smith and Lauren Jacobs from Maine Winter Sports were available to coach students to cross country ski. Big Rock groomed the soccer fields at the Central Aroostook High School and made a beautiful track for the students to enjoy. Take It Outside Week was a lot of fun for all!

The Little Miss and Miss Mars Hill Pageant will be held March 31 at 6 p.m. at the Mars Hill and Blaine Community Center. Tickets can be purchased from any contestant and the cost is $5 a person; children 3 and under are free. MISS HOPEFULS

The Little Miss and Miss Mars Hill Pageant will be held Saturday, March 31, at 6 p.m. at the Mars Hill and Blaine Community Center. Tickets may be purchased from the contestants and are $5 each; children 3 and under are free. The Mars Hill Rotary Club met Tuesday morning, March 6, at the Aroostook Health Center. The special speaker was Harry Donovan, who spoke about the plans for the old laundromat building on Main Street in Mars Hill.
When renovations are done, there will be two floors of office space, in addition to heated storage in the basement. Once finished, there will be a porch on the front of the hip-roof building. There will also be a parking lot on the north side of the building once the old yellow buildings are removed.

Upcoming events for the week of March 14-20 at the Aroostook Health Center in Mars Hill include: Wednesday — the Beauty Parlor at 8:30 a.m., Moving to Music at 9:30 a.m. and Devotions with Velma at 2:30 p.m.; Thursday is Maine’s Birthday and has the Beauty Parlor at 8:30 a.m., Bingo at 9:30 a.m., Maine Trivia Baked Potato Social at 1:30 p.m. and the Free Baptist at 6:30 p.m.; Friday, March 16, is Green Day and will have Five Card Bingo at 9:30 a.m. and a St. Patrick’s Day Social with Shamrock Shakes and an Irish Singalong at 1:30 p.m.; Saturday is St. Patrick’s Day and will feature the Lawrence Welk Show at 5 p.m.; Sunday will have a Full Gospel Assembly Service at 3 p.m.; Monday will feature Coffee Chat at 9:30 a.m., Moving to Music at 9:45 a.m., Communion with Pastor Phelps at 1:30 p.m. and Gospel Group at 6:30 p.m.; Tuesday, March 20, is the first day of spring and will have the Beauty Parlor at 8:30 a.m., Bingo at 9:30 a.m., Card Games at 1:30 p.m. and Movement to Music at 2:45 p.m. All of these activities are subject to change. Soccer Camp
The Mars Hill Recreation Department has teamed up with Challenger Sports to host a week-long British Soccer camp during the week of July 16-20 at the Central Aroostook High School Soccer Fields in Mars Hill. Camp hours will be 9 a.m. to noon daily for ages 6-11 at a cost of $117. Hours for players from age 12-18 will be from 5-8 p.m. daily at a cost of $117. Space is limited, so sign up early. ‘Shakespeare’s Midsummer Dream’
This play will be performed at Fort Street Elementary School in Mars Hill on Friday, March 16, from 7-8 p.m. Under the direction of Kaitlyn Glover and Kyle Aarons, a team of actor/educators from Children’s Stage Adventures with 50 students from the local school will perform “Shakespeare’s Midsummer Dream” following a week of auditions and rehearsals. There is no admission charge. The residency at Fort Street is made possible by a generous grant from the Perloff Foundation.
