Rathbun Lumber to host seminar

PRESQUE ISLE — When it comes to your home building projects, getting in over your head can be surprisingly easy without a few helpful guidelines. An upcoming seminar offered by Rathbun Lumber Co. is designed to guide do-it-yourselfers and professionals through the planning process of getting ready to build.

“Knowing the pre-planning steps necessary to ensure a smooth and successful project will save you time and money, and help everything go smoothly. Whether you are a contractor or a homeowner planning to build, remodel or add a garage, you shouldn’t miss this informational session,” said Pat Rathbun, who co-owns the business with her husband, Alden.

“What You Need to Know Before You Build” will cover a range of topics such as getting a building permit, understanding the new building codes, hiring a contractor, and going to the bank.

The presentation will take place Thursday, March 22 at Rathbun Lumber Co., located at 43 State St. in Presque Isle, beginning with refreshments at 5 p.m., followed by a presentation from 5:30-6:30 p.m.

The guest speaker for the evening is Roger Crouse, a retired Northern Maine Community College faculty member. Crouse has a background in computer-aided drafting technology, surveying, energy auditing and building design.

The seminar is free and open to the public. Seating is limited. Call 764-4444 to reserve a place.
