Cyr wins photo contest
CARIBOU — Gene Cyr of Washburn has been chosen as the overall winner of the Aroostook County Tourism’s fall photo contest for the picture he took of leaf peeping on a multi-use recreation trail.
The photo, depicting a riverside trail in autumn, is available to view at www.visitaroostook.com and the Aroostook Tourism Facebook page along with other contest winners.
Paul Pierce of Mars Hill won first place in both the scenic view category and cities and towns devision.
Ivan Murphy of Littleton won first place in the wildlife category and Michael Gudreau of Presque Isle won first place for the festivals and events category.
With the announcement of the fall contest winners, ACT officials marked the beginning of the winter photo contest, which started on Dec. 22 and concluded March 2.
Photos were submitted into one of five categories: scenic views, wildlife, outdoor recreation, festivals and events, or cities and towns.
One overall winner will be named as well as category-specific winners; the best of all will receive an item of choice up to $150 from L.L. Bean. Individual category winners will receive an item of clothing with the Aroostook – Crown of Maine logo on it.
Like the fall photo contest winners, winning winter photos will be displayed on the ACT website and Facebook page and may be used for marketing projects if permitted.
