Auditions for the Children’s Stage Adventures production of “Shakespeare’s Midsummer Dream” will be held Monday, March 12, at Fort Street School.
Approximately 50 local children, grades 4 through 6, will be cast to appear in the show with CSA’s professional actors/educators. The performances will take place on Friday, March 16, in the evening for the community.
“Shakespeare’s Midsummer Dream” is a new musical adaptation of Shakespeare’s beloved romantic comedy, “A Midsummer Night’s Dream,” written to be performed by 50 children. When four friends run away from their problems at home they end up in an even bigger mess in an enchanted forest, inhabited by fairies, sprites and magic flowers. The madness gets even more mixed up when local workmen, practicing a play for the Duke’s wedding, stumble into the forest. Mistaken identity and mischievous practical jokes add to the laughs. The end of the play resolves all when the four friends return home for the royal wedding of Duke Theseus and Hippolyta, an amazon queen.
Rehearsals will be conducted every day of the week prior to performances. Although not all cast members will be needed at every session, those auditioning must have a clear schedule for the entire week and, if selected, be able to attend all rehearsals for their role. A detailed rehearsal schedule will be distributed at the conclusion of the auditions. The first rehearsal will begin about 30 minutes after the auditions. Approximately 15 children will need to stay for this important first rehearsal.
Kaitlyn Glover, from Canton, Ohio, and Kyle Aarons, from McKean, Penn., will be the team of actors/ educators from Children’s Stage Adventures. This is Kaitlyn and Kyle’s first tour together, though both have extensive tour backgrounds with CSA and working with children in theatre.
This marks CSA’s 13th year touring the northeast U.S. and Canada, with the 2011-12 season. CSA is a non-profit organization based in Sullivan, N.H., supported in part by charitable donations. This coming year hundreds of cast members will take to the stage to the delight and applause of their families, friends, communities, neighbors and teachers.
The residency at Fort Street School is made possible by a generous grant from the Perloff Foundation. Come out and support the youth of your community while enjoying a great show.
